|
|
The first time we had a beetle was in 1982, a 1968 bug, and that is still with our family. Since I started to drive, i dreamt of owning an early bug.. But no chance because of reasons i really don't know (ironic isn't it?). When I was in college, my parents bought me a 1968 bug. When I got married, me and my wife bought a 1967 Karmann Ghia (still with us). Thereafter, since the German Look was in full swing lately, I bought a 1971 super bug. Then we bought a 1970 fasty that got totalled. Thereupon, my wife bought a 1966 fasty as a surprise to replace the totalled 1970 fasty. Finally, i was looking for a bus; hence we bought a 1972 bus.
But the dream of owning an early bug never got out of my head... since i was a teen ager. I was supposed to tune that super into a cool German Looker, but i suddenly had a change of heart and my passion of the early bug-eyed bug kept on haunting me..
I posted the 1971 bug for sale or trade on our forum www.vwcp.org and one replied who owned a 1965. I checked the bug, and the deal was closed...... I had to part with my 1971 super bug and say hello to a cool cool 1965 bug.......
Wow... dream no more, I have an early bug now...... 1965

Ya right observations. The signal lights are for 64 down bugs. I will replace them in due time.. thanks .... _________________ '67 KG Cabrio (Mickey) ;

you may want to just leave them. i believe the holes are a different location for 65 and up. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
Nonetheless...........congrats on a nice find!! _________________ 65 Beetle

Thanks, buddy... Weekend is always cool driving our cool '65. I was thinking of that one. And I can say you are right because the width of the early signal lights tell everything. Hence, if the correct signal lights are placed, chances are, it will be so near to the fender beading or to correct the same, new holes must be made to accommodate them.....
thanks again, crowe66............ _________________ '67 KG Cabrio (Mickey) ;

I recently got a set of BRM's for my '65. Though we cut the studs, however it was enough to clear the cutter pins. Hence, after installing the BRM's and a drove it, i noticed that there were uncommon noises emanating from the drums; hence, it was a mess.
The following morning, i removed all the BRM's and all the drums and had the stubs fixed to clear the cutter pins once and for all....
Thanks, it is okay now and i had a drive test this weekend, it is finally okay now..
I'll post some pics of the 1965 with the BRM's installed later..
Thanks
This was the drum with that remaining studs to be cut off..
That is the portion of studs to be removed from all 20 pieces.
Some of the springs that were damaged... Damn, I hate to see this.. Finally, it is fixed now....
I bought some of these for the fix...
This is the stud while i am cutting the excess portion to clear the cutter pins from unnecessary interference.
When i had each drum tested for actual fitments... From the background is the BRM installed.. _________________ '67 KG Cabrio (Mickey) ;

i bought my flat4 brms in 1997. the lug bolt bolts that came with them clear the inner workings of the beetle i put them on. i bought new 14MM flat4 bolts and installed them on my 65 bus.
the only time i have problems with lug bolts supplied with brms it was always the British copies (MWS i believe) and not the japanese flat4 brms. do you have british copy brms???? _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017
