I bet you this thread is generating a bunch of private messages..." hey, I do the same!"

I sent one PM and I also got one!

I'm diesel engine application engineer. I design diesel Installations for farm machinery, pumps, gen sets and all other Maner of machinery. My company also does marine installations in fishing boats and yaughts. once it's all installed and running I instrument the installation with thermocouples and accelerometers and validate the design. If you have a Yanmar, John Deere, or Scania engine in the Pacific Northwest we probably designed it.

In college I had an air-cooled vw business to pay the bills. I still work on Vanagons once in a while now on the side for fun/money

I'm also a firefighter but not a paramedic. I drive a 75' aerial truck.

Like someone else mentioned, plenty of free time to do other stuff like Dad, Husband, Househusband(different duties), van fixer upper and lots of other fun stuff.

In my life before the fire department I was heavy equipment mechanic but luckily I have forgotten most of that!

I operate an automotive co-op that i started for folks interested in learning how to work on their vehicles. Ive been a tech for many years and also got a degree in OG agriculture. Im trying to cultivate a comfortable equilibrium between car time and outside time. Ive found participation in the economy of the 1% to be less and less fruitful i.e. diminishing returns.

In previous life, I twisted a wrench for 20 years, got tired of dirty hands and busted knuckles so I taught myself computers (starting with an original IBM AT PC), sold restaurant POS systems but now I do Management Systems, (Continuous Improvement, Value Added Processes, etc.) and specifically Visual Target Management Systems.... oh, and 'God of Excel',,, lol
(... and the 'light at the end of the tunnel' is finally getting visible and retirement is not too far off... then I plan on being Vanagon Vagabond)

Jeff

And those of us with kids appreciate it.

Seriously, is that in your job description? "must reciprocate waves from small children; initiation of wave is optional"

After 43 years in Education I retired as a High School Principal. Before moving into school administration I taught physics and math and coached Rugby (the game they play in Heaven). Now full time Dad to 8 amd 10 year old boys, fixing, repowering VW T3's and supplying and installing Hightops and fishing whenever, wherever possible.

Corporate Chef - Travel the country to work with large chain accounts (Foodservice, QSRs, Convenience and others), increasing their kitchen functionality, speed and growth while maintaining or bettering their food products.

Degree'd in Mechanical Engineering, Culinary and International Finance. Culinary just had a better class of people, so it stuck.

Used to wrench in a Harley shop in mornings and run my kitchens at night

PT Vanagon mechanic. FT pig. Wanna be a slacker, but it ain't in my genes.

Interesting to note just what a high percentage of Vanagon owners are in technical jobs! Perhaps that is a prerequisite for owning such a vehicle, no?

As for me - retired 16 years from my own embroidery and weaving co - a very technical job despite what you might think. Shocked

Ex air force electronics tech - which does help read those circuit path diagrams in the Bentley.
