Patrick called the shop several months ago after seeing Gregs 21 window that we had just finished and said that he is interested in finding a 21 as well to have us build for him.Heres a link to Gregs bus tht we did for him http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=453802 So we went on the prowl to locate him a bus! After almost a month and a half later and several bus leads later we found this bus for him in western Indiana. Patrick then flew into Indy airporta and we picked him up with trailer in tow and brought this girl home. She has definetly seen better days but it is a 21 window and the majority of it was all there!!! So last yesterday Patrick hooked up with Greg and they mde the trip down From Toronto last night with gregs wifes vert beetle in tow so we can do some metal work and paint work on it as well. They arived here about 8:30 or so and we went to town on Patricks bus and got it torn down and on the rotisserie cart byt 2:30 am!!! We found plenty of cool home improvents from years gone by and plenty of house insulation tucked away behind the stellar homemade interior panels!!! Next we will get her all blasted to nice bare metal and see whats hiding underneath!!!

Patrick got the rest of his bus totally stripped down and then stripped down all the door window frames doors etc. He then cut out the majority of the belly pans that were rusted out and WOW is what we said when we seen the crossmembers nd bottom of the floor in factory primer!!! It looks like all the crossmembers and most of the cargo floor is solid and will be saved. His bus is definetly in need os some serious lovin but nothing we cant handle here without a problem! Him and Robb also trial fit a type 4 block and porsche fan shround while he was down here to make sure we didnt have to do any modifications to the engine bay area. It looks like we are going to be fine without any mods to it. Him and Greg are on their way back to Toronto now and the next step for his bus is the Sandblast booth Which should be tomorrow or tuesday!!!!!! And we will see what's left underneath there and get ready to start the metal work. Overall we had a great weekend working on Patricks bus and hopefully we can get him to chime in here and maybe can give everyone a run down on his plans with his bus!!!!!

Thanks for the kind words Dawn!
Patrick another peice of the puzzle has shown up today from Monkey Nut VW!!! Nice little box of funky green! Theres more on the way also! It would just be nice if we had a bus to put these peices on!!! It is still at the sandblsters. This is exactly why we just purchased new larg sandblast outfit so that we can do this in house and not have to depend on anyones els or have them hilding us up. I hate having to wait on other people when it comes time to build cars for my customers, so It wont belong and we wont hve to send them out for blasting and we can do it in house here at Vintage Metal Werks!!!!!!!

Hey, is that the picnic table Joseph built for school? Looks good!
Rancho Pro Street Freeway Flyer transaxle has been ordered. Wiring Works replacement harness is on it's way. A-1 Type IV exhaust is being fabbed up this week. We're looking good on this end.
Where's the bus?
You can always work on that sweet little Super with the flame job while you're waiting........ _________________ www.tunedperfection.com |

This is a great thread! I almost don't want to read it until it is all finished. It is like reading a great book and when you get to the end you don't want to finish it. Keep the posts and photos coming. This is really encouraging for everyone and their restorations. |

Jerry, I will be sure to post plenty of pics of us disecting the over hang and upper window channel repairs. These repairs can be a real bear!! Gregs 21 window had a lot larger area and we just grafted in a donor roof and overhang on the front 12" . This one I dont think we will have to go that route but we will see once we dig into it.
Nigel thank you for the kind words. We really apprecite and encourage you guys input and comments , it keeps us motivated to know that you guys are watching and makes us want to get to the next step to show everyone. You can only imagine the anticipation going on with Patrick since this is his bus we are building!!!!!
Patrick your new wiring harness showed up today. I will have Pat's double cab out of the shop tomorrow and your bay will be heading in to the front shop so that Robb & I can start her surgery!!!! and get some fresh metal welded back into her. I hope you are ready fo rthis because we are about to get busy and pour the coals to this beast!!!!!
