I like it! I just got a Momo steering wheel also. Would you be willing to share how you did this? The horn button I got with mine seems to have the Momo logo slightly raised. Did you remove that or is there a plain black horn button you can buy?

Thanks,
Scott

Hey Scott, I did not re-use the Momo original cover, I made my own. I PMed you how I did it.

Great job on the horn button. We have 2 Nardi buttons we need to do. Could you please send us your method? Thanks! Tom

Attemp #2 at the horn: Not as successful as the 1st. attemp because I used a little too much resin and lost some of the side profile.

The finish is much better though, it's like glass and very shiny. I'm going to try a 3rd time and use a little less resin and hopefully get the result I'm after.

Here's the machined and mounted 2nd attempt. Looks pretty good.

France likes the smaller logo.

Tom is correct, these can be very expensive. I was able to source them somewhat beaten up on eBay localy for cheap:

Hard to believe they are the same seats... I used a little elbo grease and some quality leather conditioner/cleaner and they look new!

They normally sell for around $1,000/seat used and I've seen the pair priced north of $7K new.

I drilled the rivets off the rails and mounted them on the inside with a 1/4" aluminum spacer to tuck the mounting points under the seats.

I still have yet to see if they will clear the body. I can still move the seat about 1/4" inwards by moving the outter spacer inwards. I'm going to wait 'till I get the body to see if I need to.

One thing about these seats is the amount of front to back adjustment, it's insane. I can almost move the seat to the front of the pan!

I'm still trying to find seatbelts for them. I was hoping I could get exploded airbag belts from an S2000 but they are pretty rare on ebay. Next, I'm going to take the buckle to the junk yard to find a belt that clips from perhaps another Honda.

What did you use on the clutch end to shorten it?

For the clutch, I took a 5/16 bolt that I machined down to same size as original, threaded it 7mm and bored out the center to fit the cable. To crimp it, I used this 30 ton hydrolic press.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I was able to pass the cable through with the original end but not without some work. The extra bends at the end where the pan was shortened are a little tight. So I avoided having to mess with re-fishing the cable, I crimped it after it was in place.

Repeated the process for the hand brake cables.

Getting there slowly but surely...

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

  • Shift rod shortened
  • Shifter installed
  • Steering column installed*
*Jury is still out on whether the column is too long... Worst case, we'll forgo the steering coupler.

Got confirmation that motor shipped last week!

France has started to tame the 3rd pedal today. If she's going to have her own buggy, she needs to be able to drive it!

We took out my buggy on our private property road and practiced starts and stops. She did really well! She confirmed she enjoyed it and looking forward to her next practice.

I told her to take my Audi S4 for the week but she declined...

I made a Hoover Bit to improve the 36hp fan shroud.

Ignore the green case, I used it to test fit the shroud with the bit.

On my SS, I did not like the steering wheel sticking out so away from the dash. Ascetically it did not look right. I shortened the column a little over 2 inches.

I am 5 foot 7 (on a good day, with a full moon directly over head ), 158 pounds. The shortened column and where the steering wheel ended up works for me.

Most anyone, taller and heavier than me, when letting the clutch out, their left leg bumps the bottom of the steering wheel. When they take their right leg off the gas and go for the brake pedal, they bump their upper thigh on the steering wheel.

My son is 6'2" . Because of the steering wheel placement, he cannot even let the clutch pedal out, nor move his off the gas onto the brake pedal.

Moving the steering wheel closer to the dash, due to the angle of the column, significantly lowers the steering wheel. Bringing it closer to one's thighs.

As suggested, when I did this, I checked things from my perspectives ... It works fine for me and I like the way it looks. My friends say ... unless he's a short skinny guy, no one is going to be able to drive off with my SS. ha ha

I see that you are using a tilt column . I want to change mine over ... but means cutting and welding with the dash and such in place ** On Bruce's TKO, Bruce and a friend of his, removed the vw column and added a tilt column with the dash in place .. Did all the cutting and welding with everything in place ** ... but the TKO does not have as deep a tunnel for the column to pass through as the SS does.

A week or two after he put the tilt in his TKO. Bruce was in my garage looking at the SS, saw my MIG off to the side of the garage and suggested we go for it. LOL. A project for a later date.

The SS really benefits from the use of tilt column. I have a Fiero column that I had planned on using. Bought it years ago for another project, before the after market tilts were available.

Now, instead of the Fiero unit, I will use an after market tilt. Again, that will be down the road.

Wayne
