This will be my first year. Thanks for the head up. As far as location, where about is that? Thanks again. I will be planning for that time to be going!

| It's located in Hiawassee, GA. It's in a small town in the mountains of GA. My wife, son, and I took my car this year and it was awesome! Beautiful scenery and really nice weekend. We're in Glade Spring, VA just a little ways up the road from you and the drive wasn't bad at all. |

Well, keep me in mind. If you wanted to parade down together (back roads preferably - more fun!) keep me in mind and we can travel there together and anyone else in the are who wants to travel down! |

| Will do. I actually hauled my car down last year and will probably do the same next year. I think my Ram will have an easier time with the grades going in than the stock thing motor. It'd be nice to have someone to travel with on the way in. By the way, your ride looks really nice! I noticed a red fog light on the bumper in one of your pics. I really like that touch! |

Is that July 9 or June 9?
July 9 is on a Monday
June 9 is on a Saturday

It was held on July 9th this year. I suspect it will be held the second weekend of July next year, whatever the dates shake out to be.
It was very hot at the show, mid summer in GA. If I had one wish, it would be to move the date into the Spring or Fall to be a little more pleasant weather. _________________ The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Ha Ha Ha!
We camped in the mountians and it was 10 to 12 degrees cooler than in town. We also drove around the mountians putting about 250 miles on the Thing that weekend, even ran some forest service roads. Some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen.. We hiked to 6 or 7 waterfalls that were 200 feet or higher, saw some black bear.
But, I can't drive fast through the show and it was smothering heat/hot at the show on Saturday. _________________ The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

If the show is the second weekend in July, I will make the trip out from California again.
This time I will take longer and try to get to Yellowstone. _________________ 63 singlecab

X2 on the Heat, it was pretty much brutally hot, evenings were even a low simmer. Was a good show though, had some different THINGs than were at the last Bardstown show I went to.
You can drive it, some folks do make a road trip out of the whole thing.
I 'was' going to drive mine but had a co-pilot change at the last minute and ended up going via "tow bar". it was a bit of a mutha getting everything (first time towbaring) but it was a breeze once I had all the equipment (Chains, lights, towbar, truck, rear window sign, bungee cords, disco the speedo, disco the battery etc).
I was really nervous on the tow bar deal, but about an hour from home it hit me this was going to be a snap. My buddys truck didnt even know the THING was back there.
Maybe we'll get REALLY lucky and it'll be cooler in 2012.
The road trip was fun too, half of us got seperated and lost!!
remember that Dell?
Really added to the road trip though
Kubeltreffen's are ALWAYS a trip you will remember, new experiences and lots of friendly folks willing to show you their THING
Go for it!

Hey T and everyone else. I've got to say the trip to KTE is well worth it as I've made some really good friends in this forum and when you meet up at the event it's like a family reunion. Everyone keeps in touch and is ready to help out in a second if you need help. Much like most vw shows I've been too -- just good, laid back, friendly people. And honestly like T said, part of us got lost on the Sun. cruise and I honestly think that made it that much more fun Just hope we all have a safe winter and spring until time for us to meet again! |

Sam-
I will happily forfeit the award for the longest distance traveled; hope to see you again in Hiawassee.
This time, I think I will fold my windshield down for the photographers on US 129.
Best regards, Mondshine |

Ok, with Tee Watkins dropping out of the Thing world, this has made it impossible for me to hold the show over 400 miles away from my home. So I have decided to have the show every other year in KY or if I find a host then we can have it in another area.
The next show will be in July of 2013. To fill in the void for the years the show is not being held I will be hosting Thing drives in KY. I've hosted over 10 of these "drives" in the last 15 years. This years drive will be either the weekend of July 7th or July 14th in Elizabethtown, KY. E-town is roughly 40 miles south of Louisville, KY.
We will have a host hotel. Plans are still being made but some of the festivities will include the following:
Swope Antique Car Museum
Drive to Old Railroad town in Glendale, KY
Saturday night at the Lincoln Jamboree in Hodgensville, KY (Country Comdedy Show)
Saturday Drive (approx 100 miles)
Sunday morning breakfast drive (approx 50 miles)
End of Drive weekend approx noon on Sunday
If you are not on our Kubel Treffen mailing list and would like to join us, please let me know.
This drive is sponsored by The Thing Shop and door prizes will be awarded.
CB radios are very helpful so please bring them if you have them, this helps keep us all together. So far we've never lost anyone. |

OH. CRAP.
I was totally looking forward to my first Kubeltreffen adventure this year.
Well... if anyone wanted to ride some of the Blue Ridge Parkway with me this year and want's to meet up in this neck of the woods--- it would be great to have a unorganized just social meetup-drive through the parkway, so if anyone wants to, Send me message or PM and I'd be more than happy to try and accommodate! _________________ -|_______|-

RON,
Glad you're not dropping completely and understand the logistics involved with organizing an event... I appreciate your efforts, wether they be yearly or every other...
The drives sound fun, and I look forward to joining, if life permits!
ADDICT,
Now that i've finally whooped the carb/tuning issue, I'm up for a cruise on the Blue Ridge... I certainly need to get a Killboy shot of Our Thing, if nothing else!! LOL... _________________ FORWARD: forward is only a good thing, when you're facing the right direction!
