Just throwing this out there, but it seems like almost daily threads are started w/ questions about shocks. Seems like a central thead for this topic would be helpful. I see the (basically) same questions asked almost weekly. What do you guys think?. IMO, it would save a lot of redundant posting/answering.

X2
Maybe an explanation on the proper way to measure a shock (compressed, extended) and the fact that shocks will not provide lift, they are made to absorb impacts smoothly. I know there are people on here that can explain it way better than I can

Great idea. It would have been pretty useful when i was looking to buy some new squish.

The search button helps but since there are so many set ups that people run its hard to choose what is right for "me"

I vote that this thread include shock types for almost stock cars - LT beasts, shock mounting tips, maintenance and suspension-stop types.

Suspension stop types...

Front:

Hook and Rod kit -

Kit can be bought here - http://www.pacificcustoms.com/AC413100.html

It's a do-it-yourself kit, basically requires only a welder and minor fab skills. Stops upward and downward travel

Limit straps -

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Also requires bump stops, the straps only limit downward travel

Rear:

Spring plate stops -

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Stock setup, limits upward and downward travel. Plates can be notched to increase travel, but this will increase risk of blowing out CV joints

Limit straps -

Same idea as the front straps, limits downward travel but not upward. Length of strap depends on shock length

Any ideas for additions to this? Just thought I'd start it out...corrections and additions are more than welcome

Fun fact: I've heard that for proper shock operation, the eyeholes should both be facing the same way when mounted. Anyone have any experience with this?

I read the eyeholes/mount bolts should be perpendicular.

That way it can pivot on 2 axis and not bind

the bolts should be parallel... and should both be pointing to the outside of the car... *NEVER facing forward on trailing arms NEVER*

what front end? and you are going to have to make a upper shock mount.
