As mentioned earlier in the thread, they came on some Ford Broncos. They came on the Baja Bronco by Bill Stroppe.

What are these rear tires??? Looks to big to be mini mags, and no white lettering that gates and western auto always seem to have. Definitely not the 7.00-15 baja pros either... perhaps t 9.00-15 baja pro tires with heavily worn crowns???

hmmmm

Here are a few pictures of some class 9 cars with Mickey Thompson Baja Pro tires. The rear 15x9.00 tires are nearly identical to the old Gates XT Sand Command tires. The 15x7.00 front tires are somewhat similar to the old Gates XT series of tires. The tread pattern is right, but the lugs on the sidewalls are different.

Bl3,
Do you plan on using them on the street?
The ones I have left over from racing in 1980s are hard as rock. I don't use them as I afraid the tread will chunk off.
Plus mine do no look as good as yours. Desert rocks like to tear up the sidewalls.

Just for show. Hopefully they'll come off the bubbles OK and I'll put them and a pair of NOS Gates Sand Commands on a set of Jackman Aluminum Stars.

I'll need to get the bead screw holes in the bubbles filled too.

Nice find! Those look like they are in really nice shape!

Some of you may be interested to know that we are not the only ones that like these tires. The many people in the Wildcat crowd has been moving towards the 15-9.00 Baja Pro tires for hard core wheeling. It would be nice if a little extra demand would keep the prices from bumping to much higher than they already are...cause currently they are a good bit pricier than the similar Yokohama Supper Digger iii's.

What do you guys make of this? Did Gates license the production of the XT Commando tires to National tire are some point? I have never seen these before.

I saw these last August on an ad in the Samba classifieds and asked the owner about them. He said they were National.

After Gates quit making tires, there were several other tire brands that got hold of the molds and produced the Commando under new brands and names; National, Western Auto, Dick Cepek and now Mickey Thompson.

It is one thing for another company to replicate the design as WA and Cooper have down, but to also call it the XT Commando? Interesting. Very interesting...

When Gates quit making tires and sold the molds/equipment, they probably sold the XT Commando name/trademark also
