"Does anyone know anything about the Caddy Maxi Tramper Camper other than they are only sold in Europe?"
They are/were available in Australia and New Zealand too - but they're rare. I know, because I just bought one off the web, sight unseen, from a dealer over 2,000km from me. I only discovered the vehicle existed a few days ago and instantly thought: wow the PERFECT vehicle for my wife and I, and it fulfils my dream of having a Kombi camper - except it's in an even more usable and ecological/economical format (if you're not already aware, VW's TDI Clean Diesels are phenomenal - see Jetta link below).
If you didn't already find them, here are some good links I've uncovered in my searches so far:
VW Caddy "Tramper" promo clip from VW New Zealand
VW Caddy Life ad (3 minutes, very good, catchy tune)
30 second Spanish language ad (well made, pretty cool)
Beavers and Wood (30 second German ad, funny)
The kids are whispering "Biber!" (Beaver!)
The German voiceover says: "For up to seven people…and half a cubic metre of wood…the new Caddy Maxi Life"
Maxi Life wedding
The Party (or: if the Maxi Life's a-rockin'...)
The Trip
Men (in German): "we're here to install your new bathroom"
Woman: starts speaking Spanish (maybe Catalan) (and is evidently in Spain)
Text-over: "so economical, almost every job is worth taking."
On the subject of clean diesels, this ad drives home the point and is funny:
Volkswagen Jetta Meets Prius commercial
Komfort
Please post more links if you come across any.
I was educated in this forum today, I also did not know about the Chicken Tax. Thanks. The Occupy Wall Street protesters should add abolishing the Chicken Tax to their grievances.
"Robert Z. Lawrence, professor of International Trade and Investment at Harvard University, contends the chicken tax crippled the U.S. automobile industry by insulating it from real competition in light trucks for 40 years."
I'll post more when our Caddy Camper arrives later this month! |

| I might add that the text in the 30 second Spanish language ad (well made, pretty cool) is roughly: "Why would you want a house on the beach....if you could have the whole beach?" |
