so its been awhile since this post was started. what pwm controller have you ended up with and how has i worked for you? do you still have the whining noise? where did you mount the contoller? that old resistor creates a lot of heat and the factory mounted it in the plastic blower box. |
Mines in my thread, was cheap, working fine. No whining. But not enough variability in the speed at lower 1/2 of range. _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

Quick vid of controller and spare blower. The controller is this one, https://banggood.app.link/IPnta0IxFx
It's probably undersized. Says 15 A with 10 A continuous. I measured. 10.2 A draw on full throttle. Power source was a not fully charged battery, don't know if the lower than 13 v supplied voltage would affect the current draw with a PWM controller. The heat sinks got mildly warm on 3/4 full tilt, I think a bigger unit might be better.
But it was still fun to see it make the blower go
No screeching or high pitched noise that I could detect . The unit says its 16 kHz.

I just started refurbing my heater and while researching I came across this:

Since I have everything apart and I'm replacing the blower I figured I should also not ignore the resistor. Not really keen on paying for a new resistor so for around $ 20 I plan on trying a PWM. Just ordered it and the blower yesterday so we'll see how it works. _________________ '84 Westy
