It'd be interesting to see how many vehicles come from the same dealer ships and maybe even where around the world they ended up!
Mine:
1969 Beetle made in Germany--->Wetmore VW, British Columbia, Canada--->Brampton, Ontario, Canada. |

"Canoga Park VW" was probably actually "Ogner VW" on Roscoe Blvd. |

No dealer info but, my SC made in Germany and shipped to Jacksonville, Fla. before being sent to the dealership in Honolulu. It at sometime ended up in central Ca. and then down to San Diego. It now resides in South Florida (Palm Beach Co.). _________________ '69 SC under resto

Oh...sure... go for the low mileage/local edge.

My fastback was driven home by my dad in late 1970 with me in the back seat, from Ogner VW in Canoga Park, CA with the window sticker on it (which I still have).
It has stayed within about 40 miles of that dealer ever since, though it was routinely serviced in Santa Monica at Ralph Cutright VW, and later at the independent German Auto Repair in Reseda by Gerhardt Geisler and Hans Mueller, both now retired.

My 1966 deluxe sun roof bug was shipped from Germany to L.A. in that year and
trucked down to El Cajon, Ca. and delivered to Truman Motors.
I purchased it there on 6th june 1966 while serving in the Navy at
NAS Miramar north of San Diego. The next day the wife and I drove
to Disneyland in Anaheim. In the parking lot I asked her to stand up through the sun roof while I snapped her photo with the new bug.
Forty-five years years later I'm fortunate to say I still have my wife, the car and that photo. We drove across the United States four times
in the little car and have had a lifetime of adventures in it,
including teaching my daughter to drive in it. It still runs fine.
Also sharing my garage is a '63 15 window bus that rolled off the line at
Hanover, Germany on 6 Feb '63 and shipped out of that port on 11 Feb that year. It was delivered to Seattle where it was consigned to Carter Motors Volkswagen, there it was delivered to its first owner.
Its remained in in western Washington all Its life. I'm the third owner,
eighteen years now, and living about eighty miles north of Seattle,
on Whidbey Island. |

My 58 left Germany on July 12 1958 and was shipped to Brittsan motors, Fresno California. It then found its way up to Healdsburg Ca in 1969, where it was parked in 1972, and sat til Oct of 1995 when I bought it. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

My Beetle was sent to Freiburg, Germany new in 1959. I looked it up and if that is where it was sold it would have been Baden-Auto which is still around.
No idea how the sequence of events happened but it somehow ended up in rural Bibb County Alabama in the mid 1980s and resides with me just outside of Birmingham, AL now.
My Bus started out at Western Motors in Great Falls, Montana, spent some time in North Carolina before coming to Huntsville, Alabama before I bought it and brought it down to B'ham. _________________ All he needed was a wheel in his hand and four on the road. |

1986 Cabriolet:
Osnabrück, Germany > Davisville, RI (port of entry) > New York VW dealer (where PO bought it) > Palos Verde, CA (where I bought it) > Pasadena, CA > Arizona
1990 Vanagon:
Hannover/Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Germany > Northern California dealer (owner #1 and #2 live in NorCal, dealer unknown) > Long Beach, CA (where I bought it from owner #3) > Arizona
2000 Jetta:
Puebla, Mexico > SoCal port of entry (San Diego? L.A.?) > Santa Monica Volkswagen (bought new, literally, off the ship) > Arizona
The only dealer I know of that is still in business out of all of those is Santa Monica VW (where my grandma bought her VW, which is now in NV). Next time I'm in the Cabriolet I'll have to dig out the maintenance book and look up the NY dealer. _________________ ~Kamz

I've still got apparently the original dealer license plate holder on mine: University VW, of Fort Worth, TX. It's apparently now an Audi dealership.
I bought it near Dallas in 1993, stored in MN for 18 years (updated the title while I was in Virginia, although the car never made it there), now it's here in IL with IL plates & title.

Given that there's a gazillion dealerships (even back then), it's pretty unlikely we'll get more than a couple from the same dealership in this thread, unless the thread gets huge. _________________ Fastback owner and unrepentant

I checked the location of my car's dealer--Wetmore--on Google Map. It's just a tiny dealer and it's still in biz too!!
Nerf---THAT'S why it'd be so cool! Whether it gets big or not. |

My '72 Super was built in October of 1971 in Wolfsburg Germany, sold on January 18th 1972 at Wheaton Import Motors near Chicago for $2250. I know all the PO's (one family owned it) and I know it spent a few years in Chicago, some in Texas at NTSU, and eventually came here to Kentucky where it sat in a barn for 12 years until I got it...it now resides in Crestwood Kentucky.
Interesting fact, my daily at the moment (2009 GTI) was also manufactured in Wolfsburg _________________ My '72 Super
