|

I searched and suprised to find we dont have a thread with this question for all the things we (I) didnt document when removing.
Been 3 years since I removed these..they look familiar but..
Where do these go on my '68 Coupe??
Mod Edit: Not a bad idea for a Sticky. Don't forget to add the date of your Ghia and if it's a Coupe or Convertible. |

Obviously it would sense that the staight part would be at the bottom of the hump, the split towards the back wall...and im guessing it wont fit there correctly...
Have you tried calling the maker of your carpet kit? Wish I could be more help. |

I have a 69 ghia and I'm opened up the motor i bought to figure out all the things i need to replace. Everything is perfect, but this thing popped out once we opened up the actual case. Its a 1600cc dual port engine.
Here is a pic of it, Hopefully someone can guide us on where it goes.
When it fell out, only thing left was the case and in the case, the rods, cam, crank, but no other components. |

That is the cam plug. It seals the cam hole on the flywheel end of the case.

For a '73 Ghia, you will have a small hose that connects to the oil breather on the generator stand, and a large hose that connects to the preheater duct which collects warm waste air from the behind cylinders 1 and 2, and feeds it to the air cleaner. The duct should be between the pulley and the right heater hose.

That is correct. The raised edge of the plug fits in the groove of the case with the flat side facing out.

I'm stuck again guys, I'm putting the motor back together (seems to be such a pain getting the freaking crank/cam to sit perfect and we finally got it all done and put the pistons/cylinders and all in. We realize that there's a hole and I'm PRAYING i don't have to open the case to put something through this hole. It says in the book that it must be tightened first, but we don't have it..?
the hole to the right closest to the flywheel |

you need to be at TDC on #1 first. need at least 2 greased dist shims. then drive gear, spring, then dist, look at the off center drive on bottom, align. do not counter rotate motor with out all in. I would familurize myself with the whole process or have someone knowledgable around. It can be a super simple process, parts might go in without issue...or you can mess up the gears on your crank and split the case... dont ask how i know. good luck. |

Alrighty guys finally back at it and should have the motor fully done by tomorrow.... This is the metal rod that goes in with the fuel pump. We don't remember if it goes in with the point end towards the motor or towards the pump. The two books we have to assist us covers up exactly where we'd need to see in the image.. and the writing doesn't mention that detail. Hope one of you know Thanks in advance!

I had that happen to mine too the guy at Oak Hill Automotive "The Bug Shop" said the wrong push rod was installed with the fuel pump I had. I replaced the push rod and now it runs great. It's nice to have people that know the Classic VW's. |
