Please don't let this car die. It's one of my favorite builds on here! I'm dying to see it runing and driving.

It's obvious you didn't consider what the French would think, but to the French mindset of the sixties this would be blasphemy. Yes, the car looks good as a two-door, but no self-respecting Frenchman would accept a two-door French car. That was the point. French cars had to be different -- and all French cars had to have four doors. Even forgetting the VW chassis, to the French this car would be an insult.

Who cares about the French? The car is a Renault, the Frenchest of French cars. Whether we care or even acknowlege tradition, the fact is French tradition dictates four doors.

(Still a cool car, neat build and amazing talent.)

French or not the Dauphine is still a wicked cool little car. This is a great thread.

I've just discovered this thread/project, and I love this build!
Great car, amazing skills, can't wait for an update on this project! Such a pity you have to postpone it for now...
I like the idea of making it a street legal, road driving car, not just a dragster/show car.

Well, I can comment as French : I don't give a damn, I love the project anyway. I actually think the Dauphine looks way better with two doors. Wink
But I guess you're right, some Renault enthousiasts may think this is blasphemy... Just the same way some vintage VW enthousiats think narrowing a front beam, or just lowering a beetle, is a blasphemy.

You make a good point about 4 doors french cars : not many of them during the 50s/60s, I never thought about that. They really appeared by the 70s/80s (for example, the R5 "LeCar" which was exported to the US if I'm not mistaken).

Agree with finishing this build.
The rest of the quote is borderline insulting, I won't even comment about it, let's try to keep this kind of language out of the VW community and TheSamba, shall we? Rolling Eyes

When I was a kid my dad bought a 1962 Dauphine for my older sister to drive back & forth to the local Community College. I remember one of the first things he did was tell my older brother & sister to pull the seats out of it & hose it out! Shocked Always liked that car but it wasn't around long before the transaxle went out & we sold it to some neighbors cheap. Their kids bragged about how they bought a trans at the salvage yard for something like $75 and got it running. Thought they put one over on us. Then the engine went out on it. Very Happy
