|

Hi All,
I recently aquired a somewhat rusty 1970 Sunroof Kombi. To get me safely on the road, I am doing some immediate repairs and then it will be a rolling restoration for several years.
I took care of a leaking oil seal, worn brakes and a broken shifter. At the Local Cars and Coffee, we looked like this:
I then took it to my Body shop to get the windshiled frame repaired and the battery box replaced.
Today, I was at the shop and it looked like this:
Battery Box Repair:
Windshield Repair:
Once these are done, I will need to replace the broken fuse box and start addressing the rest of the rust. You already saw the nose rust. There are also some holes in the floor that will need attention.
Thanks for listening! _________________ 1970 Deluxe Sunroof Bay Brilliant Blue/Cloud White

Mmm I'm loving the blue! The stickers are cool too. The purple font on front and front emblem are...something else. |
Thanks. The rest of the family is not thrilled with the Magic Bus label and emblem but I am thinking the she will remain "The Magic Bus" but with a cooler font.
As far as the emblem, no decision yet. _________________ 1970 Deluxe Sunroof Bay Brilliant Blue/Cloud White

Thanks but I decided not to include the holes in the floor pan or rust spots in every corner. _________________ 1970 Deluxe Sunroof Bay Brilliant Blue/Cloud White

Today, I took another look. The parts are welded in and they need to finish grinding and filling. A bit of filler and paint comes next.

That's a sweet bus. I've got a 70 deluxe and I think its a great year. I don't know what your engine plans are but if you're going stock you might want to fix the air cleaner pedestal while all the welding is being done. |

Thanks!
I thought about that but decided it will wait for another day. Besides, I hate oil bath filters. _________________ 1970 Deluxe Sunroof Bay Brilliant Blue/Cloud White

Now that the Windshield and battery box are fixed, time to tackle the floor. This is what I am facing:
I plan to fberglass or Bondo these:
I have ordered a replacement step for this, plus some sheet steel to be welded in:
