I went ahead and ordered the key switch and the plastic ignition switch. So those are on the way.
Instead of cutting or splicing any factory wires I will wait and see if anything is screwed up on the column and if the switches fit and work, etc.
Anybody know why the PO put that extra starter junction block in? |

jody bug the red wire right next to the blue wire with the big plastic connector in the lower center of the photo... you see it. if you unplug that red wire you can then plug a short jumper into the back half of it and tap it on the battery and the starter will spin.
that relay box looks like it might be for the rear window defogger. the blue wire on the left side of the photo i am not sure what it is. you might track it down and see what it plugs into after it goes out that hole under the back of car.
if your still wanting to try to hot wire your car for testing purposes just hook a wire to the hot side of the coil and then to the +plus side of the battery and the coil will be hot and use the red wire i am talking about above to spin the starter. _________________ 68 bug 1600sp 30/31

its to actually run , it and not spend money
i think?
and i have the grommet on mine, and no wires there.
so mine was hacked, i will find out now.

yes , how to do it and not start a fire
he said the ignition KEY SWITCH wires are laid bare.
so that big red one is hot all the time.
so first fix that, then hot wire it any of the 3 ways.
it will start and run. and not catch fire.
how you choose to do it , or for how long, is your call. OP |

Saved my car from being impounded and I don't have the dough to bail it out. VERY good info.
Ignition lock failed (new) and the part it goes into slid out (took steering lock with it).
Thank God for the samba and the guys/gals on it! |
