1990, fantastic that you followed your project and idea through to being finished! Do you need to bring it to any state agency for a streetworthiness check even though the original frame was street-registered? Concerns about headlight height, (lack of) muffler, or no windshield wipers? Could the police stop you on the road for violations of these things?
Did your Vee have a quick-steer kit? Have you considered installing one?
Have you already located another Vee that is street-registered, so that you can start your next car (regardless of design) at your convenience? You could lengthen a Vee chassis behind the engine to bring the driver cockpit forward for your Avus idea. Do you know what Avus stands for?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVUS
When I worked in Wolfsburg 30 years ago, I had a friend in West Berlin who took me on the public road which comprised the long straight-away of the circuit. |

Hi Rome,
The car did not require inspection to this point. It is somewhat "grandfathered" in as a collector vehicle. Certain rules do not apply as they would if it were a manufactured/custom auto... These laws are different from state to state...
I was aware of what AVUS stands for. It's very neat that you were able to drive the parts that still exist, something many dream of!
Thanks for all of your input. I am considering building my own chassis for the Auto Union inspired car. This allows much more freedom in the structural design elements and the ability to (perhaps) make it legal for the Salt in 2013...
Best,
Chris |

See you on the salt........................

Thanks 55. I have a pretty in-depth documentation of the build on my blog: http://www.themotoringjournal.com/?s=frankfurt+flyer&x=0&y=0
If you go back to the early threads you can see it from start to the current product. |

No I wish. Just a pic I found on the interweb and it just looks like the flyer, except steel and looks to be on a real porsche chassis _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

And it is parked in front of a Prototyp trailer in Germany, home of that beautiful Type 64 Rome to Berlin resto/build. And as the friendly Sargent once said, "Very Interesting!".

It was really a great moment for me to drop the door of the trailer and show Tom the car. His enthusiasm and speed history was a major inspiration for me to build this car. I am still working to finish the motor using many of the components he has suggested. I can't imagine how fast the car will be with that engine installed... it's fast now at around 62hp and 1010lbs! |

Can't you be persuated to run the mile with a 36hp based engine?
Your car would be great for setting an all-time high mph record in a 36hp class
Not sure if Dick would be so pleased _________________ '75 SB 1303 2,4ltr T4 turbo: 10.58 @ 129.9mph

Great picture. I'm sure Tom will get you going faster than you ever wanted to He's one of the nicest guys it's ever been my pleasure to meet. The stories he has and his enthusiasm for racing is inspiring to say the least.

Beautiful car and build. Thanks! I think it was a good idea to paint silver as I'm sure you know about James Dean and his 356 racer, Lil' Bastard. I think chrome and aluminum/highly reflective surfaces are illegal in some states. |

Hi Fella's,
I want to share the next phase of my Frankfurt Flyer project. I am building 2 more cars and as the computer rendered pictures generally show below... They will be built with an optional hardtop modeled after the 550 Le Mans Coupe. I call it the "FF Coupe." I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but it's a continuation of my dream project.
I have collaborated with a well known 40 year Porsche race engine/car builder who will layout the mid-engine running gear. These cars will really rip! I still plan to use a hopped up 36'er in my personal FF Coupe as well...
