Looks like it belongs in there
Pictures of the reconfigured exhaust set up? It looks like it is now a side dump. Both sides? To me side dump looks even more "sleeper-ish" |

Thanks guys. I don't think this looks too sleeper-ish though.
Pretty much in your face!

So weird I just picked up a good low mileage 4.3 yesterday and was wondering if it would fit in my Vanagon. Now I want this |

So anyone know of a place that could re-gear the van trans to accept the 4.3 without running it at 3k on the highway? |

3K????? More like 4K. And good luck with that, because you can spend lots of money and it, and it will just break anyway. Trans wasn't made to handle much power/torque. |

Honestly I just found your build yesterday and was thinking of keeping the 4.3 for a shorty Chevy van project someday or something. I'd really like to swap out the old 2.1 in my Van but subi builds and kits are waaay to high. I'd rather have something like a v6 or v8 - is your 5.3 working out well? That transmission you are using, is that an automatic or manual? |

The ratio's are nearly identical, so wouldn't a 5 speed subi trans take the pressure of a 4.3? |
Your forgetting one thing....Weight. |

can I be your apprentice? I'll live in my vanagon and provide copious amounts of beer. I used to be an aircraft mech as well and am no where as talented as you. |

Unfortunately this website does not have the headbanging metalhead emoticon, which is really the only appropriate response to that video. _________________ She's built like a steakhouse, but she handles like a bistro! |

Ha. Too bad you're in jersey. I once worked aircraft myself.

Thanks. From the corner to the gold bug was 60. oops, better slow it down. Damn that came up quick. Can't believe how nice it rides. Really quiet until you make it angry
But that's to be expected. Need some more time behind the wheel, but overall quite surprised and impressed with how this swap turned out. For 3:15 rear gears, it hauls. |

Bravo! Congratulations on a successful first run. It sounds amazing, and it's obviously very quick. Just looking at the YouTube clip time, the van passed the gold bug about 6 seconds into the video clip. I know there was a slight rolling start, but still, you must be pretty close to having a 6 second 0-60 Vanagon.
It's funny, I was thinking the 3:15 final drive was going to make it more of a cruiser, but since Vanagons are pretty light, that gearing is probably just about ideal.

Thank you sir. I too was concerned about the gear ratio, but was quickly proven wrong. I have since found out that some of them also came with 3:36 R&P gearing. There are 3 ears/tabs on the diff. The closest one to the engine needs to have a 4MN stamped on it. But I'll bet those are rare. |
