Suspention : Better in the front end cause of the sturuts

Body : Different front apron, car is overall 1' longer and has abit more inside room

Brakes : Same

Engine : Same (as far as i know)

Interior : Biggest difference, supers have the larger dash, padded dash with the big lump, and the inside have more room.

*EDIT* i was thinking 73+ Supers Rolling Eyes

So front trunk lid is different? I can't use a 72 standard beelte front lid on a 72 Super Beetle or visa versa. Front suspension is different, how about rear?

Depends on what you mean by "Better" front suspension. The Super has better cornering, handling, etc on the street. But if you ever plan on taking it off road, a super is NOT what you want. The towers can literally tear out (Happened to a friend but he was jumping his, he knew better and that is what happened) and all sort of sheet metal can bend tear, and thinner more fragile components can break if you do anything remotely serious.

The larger, bulkier, heavier and not as nice handling components of the Kingpin work onroad, but are almost unbreakable offroad. Same with balljoint, but KP is generally considered tougher than balljoint, an dboth are far stronger than Super.

ok, to make sure we are all on the same page;

from the back bumper to the front windshield; totally the same, all interchangeable parts......

the front hood, "bonnet" area, suspension, apron, literally everything in front of the windshield is different.....

The hood was made for only two years, 71 and 72..... no aftermarket hood available..... find a spare and stash it away is my advice.... all the other front parts are available aftermarket..... the original apron is slotted in case you had AC.... I have found a non-slotted apron that really looks good.....

my 2 cents....

Of coarse all this only applies if Jodybug is in US/Canada, no mention of location.

Pretty much everywhere else standard bugs have smaller engine, different swing axle rear suspension, different wheels, seats, brakes, etc etc

Super Beetles use the same diameter and width brakes as Type III's use on the back (9.782"-9.882"x45mm)...and they use very early Type III wheel cylinders (23.8mm).

Std Beetle of the same vintage is 9.112" Max diameter by 40mm shoe and a slightly smaller wheel cylinder.

Thank you very much for all the information.
I will find the stickys are proceed with my education on the dufferences.
I am located in Illinois so the info you have provided helps a great deal.

I happened across a low mileage 72 Super. It was tapped in the front end. It dented the bonnet, and a small area under where the bonnet was hit. The front apron is fine. Must have been hit higher up. I will look for a undamaged bonnet but this one is easily fixable.

The previous owner had drilled and popped out the ignition switch.
I just got a new switch in today and will install it so I can start the engine and see if all is well.
He was going to do a restoration on it, tear it all apart, pull the motor, etc. Not sure why but to make it easier to pull the motor he cut the rear apron off. Must have not wanted to lift the car up to slid the engine out.
Apron has no rust and he made two nice straight cuts so it will be one of the easiest weld jobs I've done to put it back on. Thanks again

Sounds like he might have been part way through the removable rear apron modification but never got around to welding the pins and sockets on. It's nothing I have done, but I have read about it here. You may want to read up on it and consider the mod since it's already been cut. Just throwin' it out there.
