That's a COOL Picture. Early 70s vintage. I still have a pair of Bridgestone Alligator tires with the exact same re-grooving job on them. Could be the same tires!?!?!? They're not rotted at all. Still hold air. Been sitting outdoors for over 40 years now. Wish I could buy offroad tires that would last like that now.

Note the 4 separate exhaust pipes with a megaphone on each. They were called "torque pipes" then. Disappeared from the scene very quickly when word got out that they actually produced less torque than a 4-1 header like the Tri-Mil Bob-Tail.

Offroad race buggy. Hi Jumper Ascot Squareback 96" wheelbase. Early 70s. Same basic frame as mine. Mine has kicked out top rails and is a fastback. Note the glass windshield in a frame made of extrusion for a fiberglass buggy windshield, but shaped to fit the Ascot. Might be a good solution thees days for a street legal rail windshield, if you could get someone to sell you the un-bent extrusion. Back then, you just talked to Bill Harkey Sr., who had the windshields made a few miles away for his fiberglass buggies, and he would get you the windshield made custom. Now they are extruded and bent in China for some corporation that is owned by unknown persons.

Brian...You may well be right that it's a Funco Bandido and not a Hi Jumper Ascot. After all, the Hi Jumper was a blatant imitation of the Funco.

But there are 2 issues which led me to call it a Hi Jumper before.
1 - The hood has windshield wiper bosses molded in. I don't recall those on any Funcos, but the early Hi Jumper hoods had them. Bill Harkey saw potential for them to be street legal like his original Burro/Sportster-like buggies and his Manx-Type fiberglass buggies, while Gil George showed no interest in street legal buggies. My later Hi Jumper hood does not have those bosses. It COULD be a Funco with a Hi Jumper hood.

2 - The wheelbase is clearly 96". Check where the B pillar comes down to the bottom rail of the frame. An 88" frame or shorter has that landing on top of the torsion housing. Only the 96" wheelbase frames had it come down to the bottom frame rail. I don't recall ANY 96" Funco Bandidos. Only 80" to 88". Hi Jumper made LOTS of 96" frames. Mainly due to the fact that Bill Harkey kept making them long after Gil George had moved on to another design. Meanwhile, the previous popularity of short wheelbase cars was found to not be as smooth riding in the desert as the longer wheelbase, so later cars tended to be longer wheelbase..
