Ok I went ahead and got the car...way more than people here seem to pay them for but the only one in my area that is running and not rusting in a bad way and complete (inside and out). So I am going to drop the engine and transmission to replace oil seals/fuel lines and I couldn't find anything on which seals to replace in the tranny, only references to seals needing to be replaced. What do I need?
Thanks _________________ 1982 Westy, 1974 412 Variant... Yes, Aircooled's are great! Oh and I do have modern computer controlled vehicles too, but I just don't care about them. |

Congrats on getting that 'Ford like Ranchwagon', warts and all! Russ Wolfe told us to use good 5/16" reinforced rubber fuel hose for our fuel injection. He said paying extra for 'fuel injection hose' was a waste of money. We do have to buy a little bigger hose clamps too. It takes 22' of hose & 30 clamps to do a Type 3. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Do I need to do a complete over haul or just replace a few seals like the final drive seal and the pan seal? I can find a lot of mentions on sites on replacing seals to keep the hypoid oil and transmission fluid from mixing but no one mentions what needs to be replaced. _________________ 1982 Westy, 1974 412 Variant... I don't know, so I'd call German Transaxle and ask the expert. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Yes...all seals on the final drive and all o-rings and gaskets should be replaced every 7 years or 70K miles. Be careful on bus listed parts for teh final drive section. The finsal drive has ssome parts that fit type 3 and 4...but the final drive section of bus was different. Ray |
