2 piece or 3 piece case,sounds like a pre"A !

Where is the # stamped? On the right side of the 3rd piece? Sounds like it might be a Porsche industrial engine.

Than you have a Porsche industrial engine, it can be used in a 356, but you have to swap a lot of internals out.
