It has come time to wire up the wiper controls.
I have p/n CHP 12volt 0 390 246 050

Theres 5 tabs
31 - ground
53a
31b
53
53b

I've been trying to figure out what all the tabs do.
So far putting pos. to
53a activates motor for ~3-4 seconds
31b- nothing
53 - runs slower than 53b
53b - runs faster than 53

any idea what 31b and 53a are used for?

Hi;

I need to wire up a 12V VW wiper motor (with the contacts like above) only I need to do it with a simple on/off switch instead of the VW switch. Does anyone have a schematic for this setup? Thanks

It has been posted in many threads. Here's one: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=201836&highlight=wiper

Be nice to have a sticky for electrical diagrams! Much nicer 1-stop shopping for all of your electrical wiring needs!

Might be enough information here to work out what you want to do....

A toggle switch will probable get you a single speed and no "auto park"... Center off toggle may get you high and low speeds but still no "auto park"...

The link I posted above is for using an on-off-on toggle switch. It will give you two speeds and park. I wired mine that way and it works great. Constant power to 53a will park the wipers when the switch is turned off.

I used a simple off/on pull switch, because really whats the point of two speeds on a VW. They're slow and slower, I went with just the "slow" speed.
