Brand new alternator on a brand new serpentine with a brand new belt. Motor just completed and put in, never driven, trying to tune it.

AND THIS:

Is the crank pulley rubbing on the sheet metal pulley tin?

No tin down there.

It spun freely before installation, no rubbing. I think the fan is clear of the tins. I was pretty worried about that before installation. It did NOT make the noise last night, only after I moved the car.

Don't start it anymore. Unless the new lower pulley is rubbing, you have a much bigger problem. Pull the pulley and look for wear on the case.

It might be my eyes but in the video it appears the carb on the right side is loose, just flopping around! Shocked Might just be the air cleaner.

The air filter is not attached, only sitting there to keep sweetgum balls out of the carbs. Good eye...

Could it be a clutch issue? I can't get any feel from it... it's either hard as a rock or super loose. Or, rather, super loose until it is hard as a rock. No tip in or spring back pressure like I remember these things having (it's been 20 years...)

Just a guess. Is the starter staying engaged?

Notice the screech changes pitch as the engine stalls out? Since you confirmed that the belt and Fan are not the problem, Like others have said, take the main pulley off and see if it has wear marks on in from rubbing on the case. If it is rubbing , you need to FIX the problem. Dont run the engine anymore untill you find the problem. Maybe turn the engine over by hand with a wrench and see if you feel any drag.

Take the big nut off. A puller would be nice. Some people even use two big screw drivers.

If it is an aftermarket Aluminum pulley, remove the pulley bolt. If it wont budge, you can use a little heat and it will slide off. If it has been rubbing against the case, you may have alot harder time with removal.

turning the crank by hand made the noise happen, as well. This happened while I was attempting to get the pully off. I could not locate the source of the noise while under the car. One minute it seemed as if it was coming from the front of the motor, the next the back.

You need to get someone to help listen while you turn it over. By hand real slow.

I guess the plan at this point is to remove the motor and see if it persists outside the confines of the transaxle. Anything I should try before this?
