Search pulled up nothing.
Does anyone have a line on a shop that can weld some holes up on the lip of some Sprint Stars and roll out some small dings?

I don't think they are that bad. Let me look and dig up some pics.
Cell phone pics suck, but you get the general idea.
The ones with the yellow paint and the holes in the lips are OG 4.5's.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Wheels got dropped off today for welding, straighting, and soda blasting.

Not as glad as I am!

These were a gift!

Especially the OG 4.5's!

I'll post progress pics as I get them on the road to redemption.

I have an evil plan!

...the purists are going to hate it.

Wheel shop ruined the rims, of course. Some people apparently don't know how to use a flat grinder on a round surface.

The centers survived unharmed, but they are going to need re-rimmed.

Photos to come .

Sounds like the wheel shop's "evil plan" trumped yours...

Sorry to hear it--hope you can get 'em back in shape eventually.

Yeah. There's nothing quite as refreshing as PAYING someone to ruin your stuff.

Took me a while to get some photos uploaded.

Even after I spoke to them on the phone for 10 minutes about being careful they must have used a 4" grinder on the lip.

Some of those welds that were ground down were ground down WELL past the original surface level and are now just deep valleys in the rim.

So, it looks like the centers need to come out and get put in new barrels.

That will make the refinishing process easier anyway.

Bring them home and weld/grind them yourself.

It's approaching that. The only problem is the 4.5's are real and I would hate to waste the stamping on them by putting them in a 4. However, 4's in the front would be perfect.

Either way both front and back have to get cut out in order to get re-chromed, so when the centers and the barrels are laying there in seperate pieces, a lot of options open up.

I have a few courses of action on the table. The desired course is, of course, the most expensive one.

The problem is finding the right 4.5 and 5.5 barrels to replace the original ones with.

Confused

I have a pair of original 5.5 barrels I would sell you still with the sticker on them. I would go for the 4 inch barrels/outters for the front's. You won't depreciate the value of the wheel as long as they are done right making them 4 inch ones would be more desireable even if they are stamped 4.5 on the back. Either way they are your wheels and you should do what you want with them. I've made dozen's of 4's and when I throw them up for sale nobody cares that they are stamped 4.5 on the back Laughing

I'm leaning towards the 4's the more I think about it. I know nobody will care, but I'll think about it every time I look at the car.

Are your 5.5' barrels chromed or painted?

Clean enough for re-chroming?

I already have a lot of work ahead of me once the parts I have are de-chromed to take them the rest of the way down to bare steel and polish the steel. I need to get below the chrome, nickle, and copper for what I'm doing with them.

It goes without saying that original painted wheels are easier, and cheaper, to work with than chrome ones.

De-rimmed the set in the driveway this weekend.

Now the hunt is on for barrels that match the Empi barrels.
