Late in the episode 'Double Down and Bean Town', you will see Roy Garber delivering a vintage TV set to my apartment here in Waukegan (not Lake Forest as they mistakenly put in the episode). It was my second time being filmed, first time was for a documentary titled 'Color Wars' which is a European production covering early color television that made it's way to the Early TV Foundation convention I attended I Ohio. So who else has had their 15 minutes, and describe it please.

That's cool but that has to be one of the lamest ideas for a show I've seen in some time. "are you f'n serious" was my first response to the preview.

I was (briefly) interviewed on the local news while they were doing a story on the "Midnight Drags" here in town as an alternative to street racing. Guess they liked the little VW hanging the wheels up to dry.

And just like that, my 15 minutes were up. Razz

back in the '60's, during the height of the vietnam anti war demonstrations, i was in 6th grade, 9 or 10 yoa. i had to walk up state street, from main street, in springfield, ma. about a mile or so, each way. i was going to pick up my new eyeglasses. both the tech and classical high schools were on my route. there was an anti-war demonstration going on, it had turned violent. so there's no traffic at all, this cop is sitting on the curb with a few more cops around him facing outward like elephants protecting their young. he's bleeding profusely from his face and a medic is giving him first aid. there is a tv guy with a huge camera . i had to get a closer look because i had never seen anything like this before. a cop down and bleeding! in my sheltered life this was not supposed be this way. i was shued away by the cops. they weren't mean or threatening at all. they even told me he'd been hit by a thrown brick when i asked. i continued up state street got my new glasses, and walked back down the hill to mainstreet through the mayhem. even chanted with the demonstrators ''1234 we don't want your fuckin war'' didn't really understand yet. i felt completely safe no one bothered me, cops or demonstrators, i guess it was my parochial school uniform and apparent young age. told my mom about it, her eyes got a big and that was the end of it. anyway i was on the evening news. got to school the next day and i was a celebrity about half the class saw me on the news standing by the bloody cop. that was my 15 minutes of fame, guess i peaked early.

A few times...

News shot background way back

TV commercial for a show that I don't think ever aired (with my 65 Panel)

VOA's "we love old VW's" promo video for the New Beetle

A bunch of Utube blog type videos

Bunch of newspaper shots including a few front pages

And then the long one was for Natural Born Dealers in Canada and Born Dealers in the US during the Brimfield episode. I got a commercial break and promo shots along with the actual part in the show. Almost a true 15 min there.

I was cast as the main *star* in a commercial for a transportation company I used to be a manager at. Luckily I have a copy of it so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands and the commercial is now long forgotten.

Didn't even get paid for it! Mad

I got a 1/2 second of fame, but it was in a commercial that aired umpteen times, so I don't know how that counts.

I was at the Forest History Center near Grand Rapids, MN (not the town in Michigan, this is the one where Judy Garland grew up at). This is a state park that has a recreated lumberjack camp from the 1910's and related things. Anyway, I got pulled up to dance a little jig in the bunkhouse with one of the guides. I remember seeing cameras around the area, but I didn't remember one inside the bunkhouse. I thought it might be for the local PBS station or something, but I never saw a show on it.

Fast forward about 2 years, on WGN (which comes out of Chicago, but we got in MN on cable) they had a tourism commercial for MN, and they included all this dramatic scenery and sunny golf courses and blue lakes, and there's this 1/2 second of me dancing a jig in a dark room. I'm honestly surprised they picked that scene out of everything that was available. I didn't have cable at the time, but I heard about it from friends. That commercial ran for at least a year, and eventually I did see it, several times in fact.

I thought you'd have to sign a release for something like that (at least for a commercial, not for news), but there was no such thing. Maybe because it was so short of a clip.

What makes this funny is that I'm a bad dancer and try hard to avoid it entirely. So that I got on TV because of dancing is just pure irony.
