so Im converting my 440 over to a single carb and I kinda goofed up the manifold. Im use a mikuni flat slide in place of the crappy cv carbs and I was wondering if I could tilt the carb over just a bit. I forgot that the throttle cable goes in the top of the carb and to make the cable clear the seat I either have to lean it over or I have to add an elbow to the manifold. Could this possibly work? _________________ 73 SB, Hormiga |

Your best bet is to go with a down draft carburetor if you have to tilt it. I don't know why you don't like constant velocity carburetors, they are a great carburetor. Tuned correctly they are the best choice for the street.
*edit* OK I just saw the bike in anther thread. The 440 may be the worst engine Kawasaki ever build, you will over carburate that thing in a heat beat. I spent years working in a shop that specialized in KZ1000's, including racing them. The Yamaha parallel twin is a much better engine. If it's not too late that's the engine you want to slap a flat slide on. _________________ Fatchicks: Daily drivers, donor cars, collectibles. What can't they do? |

Ya haha it kinda sucks but I got it for free(traded skateboard my brother found for neighbor kids minibike for motorcycle) and the cv carbs are allright if you have the stock exhaust and airbox but I don't have the stock airbox and I chopped the exhaust all up. So I guess Im gonna have to extend the manifold then. I have an old downdraft dellorto off a vespa that I considered putting on but its got a weird shaped flange so I decided against it. _________________ 73 SB, Hormiga |

Thanks man those look a lot better than mine, I might have to get one. I noticed he had his carb at about the same angle as mine in one of the pics so I think I'm good, at least until I decide to spend the 80 bucks on a shiny manifold. _________________ 73 SB, Hormiga |

Hey I own a 82 kz550.
Jetting the carbs is always an option. It almost might be easier. But expirementation is the fun of it right!!
Those manifolds on that website look like a great idea, but I cant get over the welds that are gobbed on there like birdshit. You wouldn't really want a bad weld on one of those, could cause vaccum leaks.
You should post a pic of what you have to work with, if you can.
Also here is a great forum that I have been a member for years. Some smart fellas on here.

Well from what I've read the cv carbs that come on the 440 are pretty much untunable. I noticed the welds weren't exactly top notch but they're certainly better than mine haha, there's another guy that sells copper ones for about the same price and they're a little prettier so I might get one of those. Ill try to get a pic up in a minute. _________________ 73 SB, Hormiga |

The float bowl should be as level as possible, or you will suffer from starvation issues or flooding/overflow issues.
I think adding a slight elbow/bend to the manifold would be the right way to do it. The carb needs to be level.
Sick bike by the way! Looks like its going to make a sweet bobber. Did you do the hard tail yourself?
Here is one that built a few years back out of a gs550...

Thanks man, I started making the hardtail myself but I didn't get much farther than welding the axle plates in before it started to get trickier than I planned so I had a guy do the rest with a tig. _________________ 73 SB, Hormiga |
