About 9 years ago I bought one of my dream cars. Unfortunately life happens & I have not been able to build it. about 5 years ago I decided to start on the build. I disassembled the car & had all of the body & paint done at a local shop. Well with the Type 3 invasion coming up later this year I have decided to try to finish the car for that event.
This car is a Canadian deluxe TS sunroof model. It is also an early pushbutton dash model. The original owner bought it as a retirement gift from teaching for himself from VW Golden Mile of Canada & within a few weeks drove it & moved out to Berkley California. He later settled in Concord, CA where the car sat in his garage for many years before a local friend found it & bought it. That friend quickly traded it to another local friend. When it arrived in Sacramento I was finally able to view the car. I instantly fell in love with it. It took a year but I finally was able to work a deal for the car & brought it home & put it away for storage. As the years went on I kept collecting parts for the car knowing that someday I would get around to restoring it.
In 2007 I decided it was time to start on the restoration. I found a local body shop I was happy with & dissassembled the body & delivered it to them. They replaced the rear apron with an NOS one I had aquired. Other than that the only panels on this car that are not original are the hood & the driver's rear fender. I was lucky enough to have found another perfect 1964 Ruby Red hood, although it was painted both sides anyways, & another beatiful rear fender off of another 1964.
Shortly after the car was painted life, & Buses, got in the way again so the squareback was put on hold again. Fast forward to a few months ago & the car has now had the pan removed & a Klassic Fab pan installed on one side. These things are very nice BTW. The person now helping/doing the rest of the build on my car is great. The pan has turned out great & I can not wait to see it come along.
The pan looks way better than new now!

Cory, that looks beautiful. It reminds me of Martin's (allwagons) Ruby red Square. Hopefully you'll detail it to the max. I 'll look forward to seeing it at the Invasion. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thank you all for the kind words. Jason I had to go away for a while so you would miss me.
Here is a little more info on the car. The original owner purchased it with a Perfection gas heater & a Blaupunkt Frankfurt 3 ban AM/FM radio. The radio works but I have not tested the Perfection gas heater. The plan is to eventually get it working. I also have a fair amount of history on the car.
I will continue to post pics of parts & accessories I have collected for the car as I have time & as I dig them out of the boxes. _________________ Home of the one true split Bus Motorhome

Seeing all of these early Red Squares, makes me glad I'm working on a Sea Blue T-34. They do look sweet though. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Your lowered red square looks sick. We will be easy to tell apart at shows as mine will be stock height, this year atleast. I may lower it a little in the future. The plan is to have it done for a drive out to the Type 3 invasion in late June. _________________ Home of the one true split Bus Motorhome |

I received new progress pics today. She is coming along beautifully. Joe is doing an incredible job making this thing look new. Even all of the original factory bolts have been black oxide coated. The pan washers/plates have also all been clear oxide coated. I am so excited to start seeing all of the NOS & new parts I have been collecting over the past 9 years get put to use.
