I posted these photos in the thread about the MPC Zinger kit being reissued, so I may as well post them here too.

Several years back I built this Zinger for BusNutBob. He had an original one unbuilt in the box.

When the kit was reissued in 2010, I built one for myself.

Here's a late 1950s kit made by Premier of Brooklyn, N.Y. This was a crude Beetle model that was quickly put out to capitalize on the sudden popularity of the Volkswagen.

Can't tell if that's an American-style engine in the back (large, round, flat air cleaner), or luggage. Either way, they were smoking some good wacky weed on that one.

And they hadn't yet learned how to spell Volkswagen, either!

They were really a fly-by-night operation. The picture on the box was a redrawn Reutters drawing, and the engine was just a best guess. The model itself had a VW engine, though the proportions were off like everything else.

I decided to have a little fun with one of these old Premiers. The flat roof has a chopped look, so I built an open-wheeled hot rod. This was before people started building cars like this in full scale!

I channeled the body over the chassis and reversed the fenders to make inner wheel wells.

Maybe we should start a thread on VW model builds.

That is a good idea, unless there is already one started.

I couldn't find one, so post photos of your built VW models here. You can also post construction photos. Anything goes as long as you built/customized it, and it's not just store bought. Describe the model and the work that went into it.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but I found your new thread looking for this old one. I will be posting some of my crappy model work soon. Is there any way to combine them?

We cannot combine them together.

Sorry for the duplication. I knew there had to be something somewhere. I should have checked with Everett ...

Just picked this Model Kit up today !
Partial built 1971 Monogram / Mattel SMUG BUG 1/16 Scale, designed by Tom Daniel. All the parts are there with the decal set & instructions.
Going to clean it up and finish the build.
Here are some photos of the Kit and I'll post the finished kit when it's done.

Good score on the Smug Bug. That's an unusual one.

Here's a recent build of the old Revell Baja Chopper kit from 1971.

The model had been lightly started when I found it, and I completed it to the original box art.

Here's a Tamiya 1/35 Kubelwagen that my buddy Tony and I turned into a carson-topped roadster back in the '90s.

The hubcaps were made from Deluxe Bus door panel snaps. (I know, but I was young and foolish.)

Here's one I finished recently. It started as a Pyro VW Beach Buggy kit. Thanks to Hacksaw BoB Gilmore for the inspiration (and the decals).

Very nice work, but I do have one question. Does the motor stand really help in a scale build?

Is that a rhetorical question?

Yes, that photo made me laugh, but no disrespect. Your skills are amazing. I get too rushed when building models as you will see when I get around to posting up pictures of a couple of mine.

You can't build some of the stuff I build without a sense of humor.

For example:
