AWESOME build of the vintage IMC kit, Louie.
Here are mine, both stock and drag versions.

15 or so years ago I thought I'd try and build a copy of my ex-wifes baja bug. So I started with this.
and ended up this this. Even with a cell phone I couldn't hide the crappy job I did.
Of course it did match how the Baja looked. _________________ Prosit!

I see a lot of good work in that model, and paint can always be sanded or stripped with brake fluid and the model rebuilt. I have some in my collection that have been rebuilt twice. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

Thanks. One thing I don't have is the steady hand or really the patients. The model is gone. It went with the ex. I've been looking for the picture of the car is was based after. _________________ Prosit!

We can do that.
If you've looked through this thread you know I have something of a fetish for the old Pyro VW kits that were made in New Jersey in the early 1960s. A buddy of mine sent me a photo of a VW Jolly that was built by Karmann, and asked if I could build him one using a Pyro VW Beach Buggy kit. If it's something unusual, I'm always interested!
Here's the body under construction.
I decided to build a second Pyro VW sunroof for myself.
The finished products.

For this one, I converted a Pyro from a square window to an oval window.

Found a picture of the bug with a date on the back 1992. So it was 19-20 years ago I built the model.

Nice Baja. It reminds me of my build of the old Champion Spark Bug kit from the 1970s.
This model was based on the car that Don Ernst of Revell and codriver Dave Deal used to set the last Tijuana to LaPaz record run before the Trans Baja Highway was finished. I built the model with some extra features of the actual car.

Besides the great builds you do, I like your presentation of all your models when taking pictures. I wish I had thought of that when I was taking mine. _________________ Prosit!

Since there is another model build thread (in the Reader's Rides forum, no less), I guess this has sort of become my own blog.
Here's the LS "Sprit Window" model in 1/32.
I built this one a long time ago, so I guess I need to narrow the front end for it to look current. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

Have a look at my buddies models at "Badseed Customs" on FB. They're not VW's but very well done none-the-less. He's had lots of Model Magazine cover shots.

Way back in the late 1980s, I got a hold of a modernized PEPE Oval VW similar to the red one in the photos..
I thought about doing a conversion of it to a KdF Type 82e.
It was a lot of work making the conversion.
Adding a rear split window, round tail lights, round license plate light, bumpers with banana guards, Notek light.
I even made a chassis out of plastic sheet and came up with the tires and hubcaps.
I had a war buff back then that advised me about the proper decals and license plates for the era.
I cannot remember what the decal markings mean now?
The special camouflage paint scheme was similar to German toys painted in the early 1940s.

Nice job man...there are some great models in this thread, but I've always admired capturing a real life car in scale. Kudos! _________________ '70 bug -never ending baja project |

Well this thread made me go to the hobby store and pick out a model.... AMI Meyers Manx kit. My shot at doing a model! Its not perfect by any means but I think I have been bitten by the Modeling Bug.... I plan on getting some more, soon!

I'm glad the old AMT Meyers Manx kit has been reissued by Round2 Models. It gives everyone the chance to build one, and it's also a great source for parts for general VW customizing.
And another great Hacksaw BoB custom. I'll post some pictures of one we collaborrated on not too long ago.

I called it "Sprit" intentionally. It's a Japanese kit, and the box art actually says "sprit window." I kid you not. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

Here's one that Hacksaw BoB and I collaborated on. It's an AMT Der Volks Van kit from 1971 that was built straight out of the box.

Here's how it started
I sent the body and chassis to Hacksaw BoB for paint and graphics. We decided on a German ADAC theme.
BoB also painted and detailed gas cans and a tool box.
After getting the painted body back I did the rest of the painting/assembly.
The finished product.
The model is now in the collection of BusNutBob in upstate New York. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.
