Nice models, everyone. So... I am on the hunt for a 1/24 Bburago 356 convertible, 1/24 Sunnyside pre-A or a 1/24 diecast bug with an opening engine cover, along with scrap stock and a K&N-type air filter (even a Ford V8 intake plenum and air cleaner since it'll be bastardized anyway) and an exhaust system of some kind, so I can stick a Maisto Honda Valkyrie motorcycle flat-six in it, somehow mated to the stock transaxle and complete with full stock water-cooling, and go full abortion/homemade bastard with it. Once I get all the parts and the diecast I'll make a thread and also add finished pics to this thread and the gallery.
I got the idea from reading the whole abortion thread over a few sleepless nights and taking apart a diecast Valkyrie. |

Just finished the new reissue of the old AMT BUGABOO! kit. This is the alternate version, called Bug Out! It just doesn't get any wilder.

Wish I had known. I would have built it for you.
I actually built four of them: Two Bug Out! and two traditional BUGABOO! The second Bug Out! is going to Tony in Canada. The BUGABOO! cars are not done yet. I'll get pictures when I'm happy with them. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

I should send you one of my VWs. I'd love to put one of your builds in my collection. _________________ Yeah I like Herbie AND New Beetles. Got a problem with it? Tough.

Finally dug this one out of storage... Rebel Alliance X-Wing New Beetle economy fighter.
It's suffered a bit, the cannons are all broken off.
New Beetle Snap-Tite kit and a X-Wing kit bashed together for this one.

That's pretty ambitious.
I noticed that my black New Beetle bears a resemblance to "Toothless" from "How to Train Your Dragon." It would be interesting to kitbash a "Toothless" dragon VW.

That's why I've started doing assembly-line builds. It's not a lot harder to do two or three vs. just one. But remember, it's reciprocal. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

The BUGABOO! builds got me interested in freshening up my old Superbug Gasser kit by AMT. Thanks to Hacksaw BoB for the decal help.

Wow - a lot a great builds here. Lots of inspiration to try my hand at one. It has been a long time since I last assembled a model, but I used to build quite a few of them. Alas all are gone; when i was younger they suffered fate of crashes (planned and unplanned), burning, or the wrath of the BB gun. The ones assembles as an adult were mostly given away.
I noticed several posts about re-building models, which reminded me that I always wondered if there was something that could be done about this one. I have two of these, one never assembled:
and another that came like this:
Lots of glue was used on this one. So a question for those more experienced in re-building, what is the best way to take apart and repair models? I've heard of people using nail polish remover with acetone, nail polish remover without acetone, debonder products, and even easy off oven cleaner. The only thing I've ever used was a knife or razor blade, and that was only when I did something wrong. I've never tried to fix something this bad but what is there to lose?
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! |

Hi jack1448
Very nice that you posted !!!
If you have a passion and skill to bring back the life into a VW model that has provided enjoyment
and now has seen its better days . . . .
All the power to you !!!!
I am more on the metal construction side of the bringing back the life into the VW models . . . . .
But I am sure enthusiasts and experts on the plastic side, such as Blue Baron, will be able to help with expert advise !!!
Please keep us posted on your journey !! _________________ Hacksaw BoB

Hi Hacksaw-Bob,
Thanks for the kind words ... we will see just how much passion and skill remains; just don't hold your breath. Seems I always have one or two projects going on, but they often sit around for months while I'm focused on something more urgent.
Here is a Corgi Racing Club conversion to standard pickup that I started earlier this summer. I wasn't sure how much I liked how the front VW emblem came out; I should have gone to hobby store and picked up a finer brush but thought I could handle this with brush I had.
I bought the Corgi, missing the plastic tool chest and tow hitch, for $1 last year |

just finished my latest build. Revell street machine bug in orange, It has silly roof shark fin and rear window scoops. No lack of cooling on this engine! I did a red pan and black interior, and kit bashed Porsche 928 rims and Porsche 356 dashboard, head lights, steering wheel, gear shift, transaxle and carrera 4 cam engine. I build 4 engines for this car. dual carb bug engine, stock 356 4 cam twin plug from a Testors 356 model, supercharged 356 engine that I resin cast, another 356 resin cast engine in the car.

Yes, I'm familiar with this Revell bus kit. The model pictured in the first post of this thread started out similarly. (There's also a full restoration on page 4.) Feel free to pm me and I'll advise as much as I can, but from a first glance you're ahead of the game starting with a model that never had paint applied. But the disadvantage is that with no paint to separate the plastic parts, the areas that were glued were glued down good. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.
