My '73 SuperBeetle is having electrical difficulties. Every once in a while, the GEN light will come on and none of the electrical components work (no lights, turn indicator, radio, fan etc).
Engine seems to happily continue to run (but maybe just off the battery). If I pull over, turn the engine off, wait a sec and then restart, everything goes back to normal and it might not pop off again all day
Gunna check the chassis and battery grounds tonight, maybe even clean up all the electrical terminals on the battery, alt and relay.
Any other thoughts?

Next time just try and wiggle key. Not sure if you can loose power through switch to the rest of the items mentioned and not the coil, but it seems like it is. |

Replace the #11 and #12 fuses. Or at least clean up the contacts.
Power from the ignition switch runs to these fuses. The ignition coil is powered from the input side of these fuses so even if you pull these fuses the coil will remain powered. _________________ AshMan40

my 73 standard used to do this. it was basically caused by a bad connection to the coil from the generator. |
