I just bought a 69 squareback and the vents on the side that provide air to the engine are removable. I have seen tons of 69 squaerbacks but none with vents like this. Can anyone give me any info on this? I know that is the way to get to the fuel injection ECU but again have never seen removable vents on a square. Thanks.

VW of America sold reversed vents because some owners thought the originals faced the wrong direction.
The best cure for the ugly screw on vents is to have them cut/welded in like the originals. 
You access your fuel injection through the small door on the inside, not through the vents.

so should i restore the removable vents or get the vent grafted in the way they where from the factory? Im no metal master but i know i few that could do the job.
