You must remove the nose cone from the tranny. Slide out the shift rod. The rod may have a bur that needs to be stoned off so it slides out of the bushing. Run a tap into the end of the seal. I can't remember the size of the tap, but it only has to be run in about 3 threads and remove the seal with a drift and hammer from the inside.

Or you can simply pop the seal out with a screwdriver

Every one I did like that broke off. Maybe you have better luck than I do.

If your talking about the brass ones with the seal in the end of it like the one below, I just soaked mine with penetrating oil, grabbed the end of it with channel locks, and slowly rotated and pulled. Came straight out but had to debur the shaft a bit at the coupler to get it all the way off.

May need a little heat but do protect the cone to body boot with foil so you don't burn it up.

My new seal looks a lot like the one in the picture posted by Islandman. The one that is currently installed is all metal right up to the little dust lip. I don't think I can fit a screw driver in it to pot it out.

It is also held in at three spots. It looks like the seal was installed and then the factory took a chisel and punched the edges to crimp it in place.

So do I only need to remove that brass end piece, or do I have to pull the whole nose cone?

Any thoughts?

I would rather not pull the whole nose cone, but if I did, what would I have to re-torque all the nuts too?
