Hey great job on your buggy, very nice. Try putting the center caps between the drums and the wheels. That's how I usually see them ran. |

Haha, I know i was asking for it and its not my dd so you got to stay positive!

Nice build, pallen!
I would recommend, however, that you find another routing path to protect the oil lines to the filter. They look all too happy to find something to snag on...

Yep, I will be rerouting them with some fancy an lines eventually

I tired that first but they do not fit behind the wheels...
Well I will be pulling and tearing down the trans this weekend, still no guesses on what broke?! _________________ Buggy Build > http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=499786

That thing looks great.
Don't do like I did one time and forget to put gear oil in the trans!
Let us know how it runs when you can. |

Going to do some fine tuning on the engine....
Trying some different jets in the carb and putting on this setup!
|
Pallen,
Could you post a review once you get this setup installed and tested? I am considering this setup and would like to know any problems, thoughts, and comparison between the old setup and this one..
I thinking that this kit allows the engine to be tuned more precisely, run smooth, and be more efficient...
Are you by chance using a wide band afr gauge?
Thanks a bunch! _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

Yeah I will give my review after it’s all in. I am also going to do jets separately to make sure I’m not mixing up results. No AFR gauge but it’s on the list. I figured if I still felt I wasn’t getting full potential from the engine I will be getting one to get some more diagnostics going.
So far I’m satisfied with the initial quality of the CB kit as with most of their stuff. I also love the fact you can type in your rev limit and the kit comes with complete with everything you need.
Now just need winter to finally end so it’s actually nice to be outside! _________________ Buggy Build > http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=499786

So I have been tweaking on the engine over the last few weeks. I had some issues with the carbs I have been addressing. One was a bent throttle shaft making one barrel read high and impossible to sync. I ordered a new shaft but I must have got the wrong one because its not the same as mine, spent time talking to redline but they were not much help. The guy said he wouldn't recommend replacing a throttle shaft ever and he didn't know why the one I ordered wasn't right...
So I actually ended up putting a crescent wrench on the shaft and was able to get both butterflys the same! I now am able to get all barrels within a point of each other with idle right around 950. So i'm pretty happy with that.
With the CB Maganaspark kit I don't think I gained much power but the acceleration from stop seems much smoother now.
I also moved my front tires to the rear and threw some smaller ones up front and adjusted the front down. Doesn't look as off roadish but it definitely has better acceleration and power, it would bog just a little too much when hitting second with the larger tires....it will spin them pretty easy in second now...

Well I decided to try and make my own soft top.. I put the windshield on the wrong way but I didn't want to redo fiberglass for the holes so I used snaps across the front. Turned out decent for my first time sewing I think!
The stitching is far from perfect but for a total investment of 190 including buying a new sewing machine I'm pretty happy!
The material is marine vinyl. I don't expect it to hold up forever but I wanted to try on cheap stiff before attempting with good material, I figure I can pretty much trace this over if I want something more durable, but its not like the buggy is a daily driver..
I am going to add a middle pull down strap, and I need to find some better buckle things as the plastic ones I have don't want to stay tight. _________________ Buggy Build > http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=499786

Hey Pallen - The new oil lines look great. I like the black fittings.
I don't think I quite understand when you say you put the windshield on the wrong way. You sound like you might have used a different way to mount other than the snaps on the windshield? |

The channel on the windshield is supposed to face out, then a soft top with a flat bar sewn in will fit in so no snaps are needed. That’s how the majority do it.... _________________ Buggy Build > http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=499786

So I was never super happy about my steering column, it didnt provide any support at the wheel...
So after some measuring and searching I had this ordered:
SAE 841, oil impregnated bronze, We used this stuff on our baja cars in college for suspension bushings with good results.
Fit like a glove!
Steering feels much more solid, cant wait to drive it in a few monnths. |
Where did you end up ordering this part? Do you have the part number still? |
