I started a flip down thing sometime back http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=480170&highlight=flip+monitor
Does your monitor flip back torwards the headliner or the other way like mine?
I like it folding up on the poptop side but I need a plastic sleeve in case the skylight leaks.
I need to get at the blower motor/core soon and I think of fixing my cracked dash by adding the double din and recovering like yours. Sooo nice! |
No the monitor flips back up against the headliner.

this past fall we took a Foliage trip into New Hampshire & Vermont and with the chilly/rainy/frosty nights with Dark @ 6~7pm it really makes for a long night when you head to bed at 8pm because it's too crappy out for a campfire. where a nice movie or such would at least push bedtime to ~10pm..
I mean I can do an 8-9pm bedtime on occasion, but not for a few days straight.. ..
my Kitchen is in need of a 22~26" LED TV anyways, so it'll be there unless a trip warrents it, the swingarm mount stows nicely behind the curtain by the window when not in use.. |
We set the laptop with DVD player on the front seat armrest (both seats facing forward), then run a line from the headset port on the laptop to the stereo, Use either direct line to aux port or a cassette adapter for older ones. You get great sound and the 15" screen is acceptable without having to bring along a separate TV/screen. Just remember to increase the time/turn off the screen saver or your will have to keep jumping out of your seat to get the picture back! _________________ Joe

Oh Yay, just the kind of guy I want parked next to me when I go camping to get away from it all.
But on a positive note, I am a fan of many of Stephans mods
Love the interior finishing, Well Done! |
I would say anywhere I go "camping" if someone can pull up next to me I am not truly camping. Of course all the syncro events / gatherings are different but even those are not the "camping" I like to do. Those are fun get togethers with friends and we happen to be sleeping in our vanagons.
I understand what you are saying about someone pulling up next to you and how that could be annoying. Someone puling up next to you should be your first indicator that you are not camping nor "getting away from it all" I do not want anyone pulling up next to me(other than friends on the expedition with me). If someone can pull up next to you that is more like staying at a truck stop than camping. I guess everyone has different definitions of "camping".
That being said if I was pseudo camping and someone pulled up next to me I would be more than a willing participant to watch a movie with them depending on what is showing, more importantly I would love to see all the intricacies of Stephan's artwork. |

Not trying to start an argument - honest , but realize there are plenty who would say exactly what you are saying if you can reach your "campsite" in a vehicle as opposed to back-packing.
I couldn't believe the first time I camped out of a car, as opposed to my back - now I have a Westfalia which some friends call an RV. Sigh, but they are basically right. _________________ John

The 1.8T (AWP) engine code we use is nothing like the Passat 1.8T. Cooling, Crankcase Breather, Intake are all completely different. There is a coolant flange at the rear of the cylinder head (upgraded...) but does not have all those silly metal hoses connected to it.

The dash is really sweet!! We are working with a local vender to provide this mod to more Volks very soon. I will have more information soon.

I see the GoWesty center caps, but as far as I know, they don't sell 5 spoke 16' rims. |

The MB originals were fairly common on the '96 - '99 W210 models. 16x7 ET41. They have a nice polished lip, and can typically be found for very little $ on craigslist
[edit]fixed the incorrect offset
