PostPosted: Fri Feb 24, 2012 10:15 am    Post subject: 1955 VWRX 2,0t Subaru Swap and Restoration! Reply with quote

I picked up this project in Colorado when I was 16. I had my mind set to do the swap then and thought I knew what I wanted. I wanted a raked balls out drag car. I am 22 Now and a married homeowner father of 2 with a head on my shoulders that I did not have then. I recently started work on it. While I still have my mind sent on the swap it is going to be a stock swap (ej20t with a reasonable tune and I want to restore the car to it's previous glory but still bring it into 2012 as far as technology (or 2003 whatever). Without further. This is going to be a daily driver that I have to have the confidence in to drive the girls to daycare and across the country if I so please. This will be a complete overview from square one to a finished product with pricing for those considering doing a swap and or looking to restore to a daily driver status. thanks for checking it out!

I picked this up for 600 dollars plus a trip to CO from SD! Keep in mind my original intent. This thing was going to be a monster.

It had 6 layers of paint and about an inch of bondo around the rear fenders..... They really must have been dedicated to those ugly things.

hahah I am sure a lot of people feel where I am coming from. I picked up two ej20ts from a local subaru dealership for 150 bucks one with a rod out the side (water logged) and the other with a spun bearing. I took them both apart and have parts for a whole build!!!! I have better pictures but this is from when i first pulled it apart.

Sounds fun, I have an ej22 in my doka,

Do you think you will be able to close the rear deck lid?

there was/is a notchback with the turbo but there is way more space in the notch.

cheers
peter

I'm loving the modern technology wrapped in a vintage shell. Can't beat the reliability and the peace of mind with a subi engine. I have a 2.2 I'm going to put in my 67 bus. I just need to finish up a couple projects before I get on the bus. Good luck and looking forward to your build.

The whole thing was all there just waiting to be re-atomized. Funny how easily they cut them up back then."

Dont waste your time on the poly trans mounts. You will be pulling them pretty quick even when strapped

I have a solid trans mount so I will not be using them at all. They were just included in the complete kit. As was the coupler i do not need haha. I should really read things better before I order.
