Here's the best cup holder by far! It's from Jbugs and fits in the ash tray!

The wire basket solution doesn´t play well with my parcel shelf, so I looked around and found this cup holder from Weber Garage. (I think they also sell on Etsy.) It slots into the ash tray spot on the dash of my 1965 Beetle. Ash tray goes in the glove box in the meantime.

No drinking while driving, but this means the passenger doesn´t have to hold the takeaway coffee on the trip home.

It´s rock-solid and cleverly designed with webbing so that there´s no hard base, and the opening seems really well sized for all kinds of cups, etc. The wood work is nicely done (and there are versions for 68 up and another one for later, too).

That´s a large size cup from the bookstore coffee shop, and a huge stainless tumbler. Because the base is webbing, the holder will also accommodate much smaller cups.

The only issue to consider is that wide-topped coffee cups of the same size may battle with each other. That would be inconvenient if actually picking up a cup to drink from while on the road, but it´s actually irrelevant if just transporting the cups. (Also possibly avoidable by ordering different sizes, or by bringing your own pre-fitted cups.) These two cups aren´t optimized for compatible size but still work fine together. They just look a little wonky.

Weber suggests putting the cup holder under a seat when not in use, which I like, since I prefer seeing my ash tray back in place for daily driving. The cup holder inserts and removes easily, so it´s no inconvenience to use it only when needed. Thanks to the webbing, it stores flat, too, which I consider a real bonus.

I ended up getting a vintage speed for my 66. It comes well packaged like an erector set and works great

OK, that is an amazing, wonderful and totally bonkers cup holder! Gotta love the tinker toy elements -- it´s pricey as anything, but, on the other hand, all the engineering is all worked out, which is worth a lot.

PS -- Love your vibrant 66, even though it couldn´t be further in styling from my stock 65 baby!

My mother bought him in 1966; he was a family car for awhile, and has been mine ever since. (My sole ambition in life has always been to be an 85-year-old little old lady, still tooling around in my small car -- I may get there, and so may he!)

I’ll throw mine in the mix.
I found them on Etsy.
They mimic a pair of piston cylinders and are 3D printed.
They’re 85.5mm even so they hold everything I’ve needed them for so far.
I got the silver version and dusted them with flat black to help shed heat. Lol.
