|
|
I am getting ready to do the final assembly. However, I wanted to ask a question (probably the only thing Im good at...). I had my OG case bored to fit 90.5 pistons/cylinders. When I insert the cylinder, it is NOT a tight fit. I an wiggle the ccylinder a little bit. Same with when I enter the cylinder into the head side. I was told by my machine shop this is normal due to different metalurgies (sp?). Is this true? Will my cylinders tighten up to the case and heads with a couple heat/cool cycles?
Thank you. |

no they wont tighten up, unless you dont change the oil & they get funkey or you add watter and rust them. this is normal to an extent.cb perf uses about .028 clearance on ther heads.more than what I like but it works.if you do them tight, and there not all centered perfectly it will put them in a bind and you dont want that.
If they were all done on cnc equipment you could have them tighter, but with somany hand held/drill press bored stuff around it,s kinda hard to hold the tollarances down & keep the hole perfectly located/centered.
hey look a pharographs!!!now where the peeramids and that sphinx critter. |

.005 clearance is good
tight is bad, no need to have the case squeezing them, that will just distort them unless everything is perfect, and nothing is perfect |

tight will cause piston scuffing at operating temp.
The cylinder needs to grow and a place to grow into. _________________ -John Cox
