|
|
87 911 is car that belongs to my wife's friends husband
Knowing that I rebuild cars he asked me to change the alternator...did so and was actually easier than my VW's...
He called me yesterday saying the battery was now dead...history of the problem...he drove it to the store one day, when leaving it wouldn't start, so he called AAA and the guy who came hooked up the jumper cables backwards!
He thought the alternator was the problem, and I must say when I removed the old one, a bunch of small pieces fell out...
Do these cars have a fuse that could be blown out do the guy jumping the car incorrectly? Just curious as I've never messed with a 911 before this...the car is at his house so I have not checked. When I go over there next time I just want to know what to look for...
Thanks for any help |

| One easy check is to see if the alternator light in the dash lights up when the ignition is switched on. If it does not come on, usually the alternator will not charge. When replacing 911 alternators once I had the wires connected to the alternator (before bolting it all in) I would reconnect the battery and make sure the alternator light came on w/ ignition. I can't tell you how many faulty rebuilt units we got...and we only used Porsche factory parts at the dealership! Anyway make sure the light comes on.--Dave |

| Thanks for the tip...I hope it comes on. If it doesn't, is there another possible problem besides a bad alternator? |
