| ive got a 65 bug im currently replacing the pans and heaterchannels on. i purchased the orange pans from cip1 and am having trouble getting them to line up to my measurements off of my factory pans. the new pans are about and 1/8 inch off on the three holes on the front of the pan, however the rest of the holes towards the back of the pan are spot on. ive taken comparitive measurements of the "frame" and suspension, and everything is pretty spot on. i dont see how grinding and trimming anything on the pan will aid in lining the front 3 holes up. the problem seems to lie in the formed section of the front of the pan where it lays on top of the napolion hat. seems to be if i try to reform this section, i will just hagger up the floor pan. is an 1/8 inch alot to be off? im replaciing the heaterchannels as well, and am planning on using the method of bolting the channels to the pan, and then setting the body down on the new channels, and lining every thing up, so im thinking i can compensate for the front most bolt hole locations being marginally off. am i wrong? someone please let me know. thanks yall |

From experience, mine were off about the same only I purchased them from another manufacturer (I can't remember where I purchased them, its been that long.) An 1/8th inch is not a big deal, I would recommend getting it as close as possible, maybe even splitting the difference from front to back if able. _________________ Troy

I've heard of the CIP Orange pans having a few inconsistancies, but nothing that really prevented most from getting them to work with a little encouragement. I've also heard the seat tracks on the CIP orange pans can be skewed (off angle) a little bit. I'd give those a good once over with a ruller as well; pop them off, adjust and reweld if needed.
Next time I would reccommend you use the WolfsburgWest pans; I went that route and they basically installed themselves.
Which heater channels did you get? _________________ - e

| klockerholm.... i already have found issues with them. i had to grind down the lip around the entire perimeter of the channels. the top peice of metal hung over the lower peice by almost an inch in some spots. i just want everything to line up without having to hagger patch everything ya know. this is my first time working on a vw, and its kind of a daunting task. i just want to keep moving forward with my project and the inconsistencies of the mounting locations has me scared to weld everything in for it to not line up. sux because my body is at my parents house and my pan is in my personal garage. first mistake i made was using the complete cip 1 pans complete with rear mounts for the body. im worried that they arent going to be angled right, and create ample problems. i should have just drilled out the spot welds and used the pans only... oh well. anybody else got some input? |

Ahhhh, klockerholm. I've had to massage every piece of that Danish shit that I ever installed. Good thick metal, though. _________________ Troy
