|
|
Hi,
can someone please help me out with this problem.
first off al, we are restoring a '66 vert and we don't know what handles and door mechanism our vert original must have.
we have the following original doors
we found these door locking mechanism's and door catchers in the doors from our '66
number 111837015B
number 151837016
number ZSB 111 837 036B
these handles came out from our vert
number 113837206c/205d (without keyglove)
number 113837206c/205d (with keyglove)
because these handles above didn't work on our vert i looked up the samba forum and some post i don't know wich anymore told me we need very rare '67 only handles, we bought these handles, and guess what they don't work, these are our handles we bought this week
number 113837205j/206e (a set of 2 with in both handles an key glove)
we also have this spare handles
number 113837205g/206d (without keyglove)
and
number 113837206c / 205d/f (with keyglove)
please can someone tell me what's wrong, none of these handles work, do we have wrong locking mechanisms or door handles, or are we doing something terribly wrong?
thanks in advance
Best regards

Yes, your car's door handles and latches are all mixed up.
Your first picture is of a latch that was used up to late '64. Your first door handle pictured matches it. They should work if used together, although
not correct for a 66.
Your second latch pictured looks like it might be a '66, hard to say because it's dirty, bent and the photo is upside down. Sorry, I have no idea what part numbers they carry.
From '65 to early '66, they had a new handle with square buttons like these, and the latches are the same from '65-'66...

If it is a late '66, again the latches are the same, but they have handles with round buttons like these...

Note, the late '66 door handles appear to look the same as '67 but they are not. Compare the linked photos to the ones you bought, the little paddles face the opposite direction. And, late '66 door handles are more rare and harder to find that '67's because they were only used about half of the model year
Both of the strikers are correct for either the 64 or 66 latches.
You will need to post your VIN or read Proggresive Refinements to find out which handles are correct for you car. IIRC it was in April or May of '66...

Yes, '66's were equipted with both style door handles so they will both function the same as long as you get two correct working '65-'66 latches in the doors. As said, which ones that are correct for your VIN would require more research.
Again my experience is mainly with the US market cars, so not sure if the pass side would have a key slot or not. My best guess is that yes, they would have one being a fancy Cabriolet
If you can find door handles in the same profile code as the glovebox lock , ie SC, SU, SV etc, you can have them all keyed to match. _________________ -Bruce

For informational addition to this topic...
I've been working with Derosse (Steven), trying to sell him the correct parts for his 1966...Convertible.
I pulled the convertible specific release actuators and latches from a 1966 Beetle Convertible which used the later style 1966 only push button door handles.
Here are part numbers for reference.
These should be specific parts for a 65/66 Convertible, These did use the small round button LATE 66 (67 look) handles.
VIN approx build 4/1966 15676****
All parts removed from a 1966 Volkswagen Karmann Beetle, Yukon Yellow in color, with black interior and top.
Part numbers on door remote (release actuators) 150490037, 150490038, both stamped KICO.
Part numbers on door lock latch 151837015, 151837016, both stamped BUM VW
