I just found a puddle of oil under the rear of the trans by the nose. It is also all over everything under the car. This happened real quick because I am under there all the time. Does this sound like the nose seal went out? If it is can you change that seal without dropping the trans. This is a fiberglass dune buggy car. Any help would be a help.

Rear of the trans near the nose?

Do you mean the front of the trans near the nose or the rear of the trans near the engine?

Never seen a nose seal go out. I hav never even replaced one before.

It is the rear by the front of the car. That is where the puddle is. Maybe it is the gasket where the nose bolts to the trans.

Must be a very short buggy for the rear to be all the way up to the front.

Not asking for prefection, just a accurate description of what you are concerned about.

The nose cone/hockey stick seal does go bad, but when they do they just weep oil, not in a large amount. The nose cone to tranny gasket can leak, but usually not dramatically unless someting has let go inside of the trans and poked a hole in it.

The next part heading rearward is the gear carrier case. It does have three aluminum plugs on the passenger side, (right side) right where the nose cone seats against it, half way up the tranny. These have been known to come loose once in a while. If one of these plugs are gone, it will leak a lot of fluid quickly.

Sounds dumb, but also check to make sure the fill plug is still in the case on the drivers side, mid way up.

Look for holes punched into the case, gear section and nose cone. Strange things have happened.

Check to see if the nose cone has worked loose where it bolts to the gear carrier section.

If anything needs replaced, the tranny does have to come out to service it.

Wouldnt a broken reverse ligt switch also cause the problem? Right by the 3 plugs.

I once overfilled with gear oil and had it running out the vent after driving a while.
Also, if the vent is plugged, it will force oil out other places when the transaxle warms up.
