|

Well , I started with a '56 that had been hit and chitly repaired both front and rear --
Then dug a engine out from the way back machine
rebuilt the engine using new-er parts -- old 90mm Pauter crank
New J&E 4" pistons
finishing off the angle ports
A little nip here and there and lo and behold
Putting things here and there -- want everything in the engine bay turbo/inner cooler and EFI -- trying to figure out the efi wiring here
almost done
and after 2+ years
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHeSk9P3Ps0
Went down to Shear Speed in Escondido and was planning on putting it on the dyno -- After chasing a oil leak and then doing a lot of baseline tuning Bill found a vacuum leak in the intake below the TB ------ CHIT CHIT CHIT ----- so didn't get it on the rollers, but the car is diffently driveable (it would hardly idle before Bill got a hold of it) -- Rolled into it behind Billy's place and it came up on boost for the first time -- can you say Y E A H B U D D Y -- The 165's didn't stand a chance
I drove it to the local car show/ cruise last night for a little while -- drove it down with the apron and rear lid off, just to show it off, -- -- Boy it was loud LOL -- Got the interest of all the V8 guys -- Especially since it is only a 1300 hee hee
Quote of the evening -- "That 1300 won't even being to spin THAT turbo up!!!!" LMAO |

Your lower tins are on backwards. Also, that style shroud is notoriously inefficient at cooling the engine, doesn't even have air vanes inside to direct the cooling air into the tins. Not trying to be a dick, just wouldn't want to see the high-end parts in this engine get overheated and seized up. _________________ Check my classifieds for kewl gauges:

aaah yes, the old "Cruisin' Grand"... spent many a Friday night there... at one time, they told me my 57 sunroof, with a 2017, IDAs, real Raders, EMPI GTV wheel, Berg signature shifter, etc etc wasn't welcome there... I pointed out that since they had always said "Pre-1964 autos, trucks, and motorcycles", that I WAS going to stay, unless they kicked out all the PT Cruisers and post-1964 Corvettes that abounded , and all the Import Tuner cars that always hung out on the corner of Grand and Kalmia... I understand the Steve Waldron, the dickhead who tried to keep me out, no longer runs the show there.... GOOD.
Tell Bill Shear hello for me. Is Toby's purple Super Street car still there next to the dyno? I don't recall seeing that thing move in quite a few years.... _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

When we first put those tins on there they didn't want to fit the other way -- but I've got some maintenance items to check so I do a retry on them -- and who says there isn't some alumimun sheet welded inside there to direct the air????? It is the only style fan shroud that mates up to that tin I can find -- any suggestions???/
Bill's shop has moved to escondido in the last year -- but the purple car is still there -- and I'll be seeing him soon for the second attempt at the dyno and I'll say Hi for you |

I was waiting for it to suck up that shop rag, I wonder if it would have came out of the turbo after going through the motor!

Another chitty day at the dyno -- for some reason the pushrod tubes on the 1-2 started puking BAD -- Billy said "we can work through this" -- so we throw it onto the dyno and start making a few pulls each time adding more rpm and more fuel (it was a little lean LOL) and got it up to about 4500 rpm and 12-13 lbs boost and massaging the VE table to keep it "right" and on the last pull blew out a exhaust gasket on #1 cylinder -- -- CHIT CHIT CHIT CHIT -- -- -- Billy is thinking that the engine is growing so much that it is torquing the flanges and causing it to leak/blow out -- final results well over 300 HP and a few more to find as it gets fine tuned -- Bill thought we could of had it dialed-in within another hour if .. ... ....
As Always Bill at SHEAR SPEED Escondido CA is the man -- The Mad Tuner LMAO -- Next time I'll bring the 24 pack so we don't run out of Beer |

Can you say LINT LOL --- It was the exhaust blowing down that was causing that rag to move --- It would of been so cool if it was the turbo sucking that much air LMAO |

That's the fluid tank for the inner-cooler -- it was working real well on the dyno -- dropping the charge temp about 40* -- it has a radiator(oil cooler) mounted under the car -- it is controled by the EFI, circulation pump comes on at +.1 lbs of boost and stays on until the rpms drop below 2000
The car has been nicked-named Ovalholio by some friends -- but I'll probably stick with Fiatdude in honor of my former little blue car -- Had to sell it to stay married, was the right choice but still miss it LOL
My son is graduating from High School Friday night and we have a big party planned for all day Saturday -- So Starting Sunday gonna pull the engine and disassemble/reassemble it and check for any problems and then new engine mounts and rebuild the front beam and try to have everything done so it can be at Nicks by noon on Friday -- Going to have to bust some serious butt and hope I don't find any problems |
