I finally decided to go this route with the defrost tubes. Left side will get the same.

I used a 1”x12” piece of copper pipe where id is 1” and od is 1 1/8” OSH part # 0000685768275763 $5.79
The piece that slipped into the heater channel is listed on the receipt as “wrot copper bushing”
And is 1 1/8” id and 1 ¼” od (small side) 1 1/4” id and 1 3/8” od (large side) #0000685768203476 $6.19
The piece that is on the top of the 12” pipe that connects the blue hose is called a 1” CXC roll stop with id of 1 1/8” # 0000032888006669 $3.99 the rolls make the od 1 3/8”
The blue hose is from HD # 1000-023-013 HRPSP25 <A> 1 ¼" id x 25 pool and spa hose. $3.64/ft. I got 4.5’
I also used but forgot to photo or mention was “Solder-It Solder Paste” Ebay for about $7 per small syringe. I applied around “wrot copper bushing” and heater channel. Used torch and it soldered it to the heater channel. POR putty was to water seal and add a little extra strength. After a few days I beat on it with a hammer and it didn’t budge. Also, the roll stop has solder inside of it and once you slip it onto the pipe just hit it with the torch and it is now soldered to the pipe.
I got this idea from Aynthm:

Looking Awesome! Continue to take your time. It took me 5 years to do my 65 and I just finished it about 3 weeks ago. I just bought a 63 Ragtop for my next project. The steering wheel is trashed. What did you do to restore that steering wheel? It looks great! Keep up the good work. _________________ Restored/Custom 1965 Beetle

Thanks. I wish I had more time to get after it. Check out this link:
http://www.thebugshop.org/bsfqstrg.htm
I used a dremel with a cutoff wheel to open up the cracks. Filled with POR 15 Putty and sanded with 120, 220 and 600 grit. I primed with some Rustoleum Plastic Primer. Found imperfections, added more putty, sanded again, primed and repeated until I was satisfied. The finish coat is Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy in white. That stuff is great btw. It seems like it will be last a while.
Good luck |

Good progress man! have to remember that trick if/ when I get around to pull the body off the pan, the way copper is priced anymore you just added serious value to the build. Nice score on the bumpers! _________________ 1965 VW Beetle Project "SIX5BUG" now Zaney"s Rally Racer

Chris Vallone did a nice video on restoring these old steering wheels.

Time sure does fly. Well, since Jan 19th I've only managed to get an old muffler sandblasted and painted along with my steering column tube and signal switch. Cleaned up some hardware and got a red horn button and nice horn bar. Woo hoo, major progress right there!!!
The past few weeks though I've been in the garage working on my hood, deck lid and fenders. Getting those things ready for primer...

Fenders got sandblasted to get most of the paint and surface rust off. The rears got DA’ed with 40 grit to get the rest of the stuff off. There was still some light rust in spots, mainly on the insides so I brushed on some Jasco and let it sit for a day. Today I rinsed them off with hot water and soap then dried and finally primed. Front fenders got a few sections welded up, but still need more attention before any filler and prime.

Doors got sandblasted on the insides, outer edges, hinges and all the hard to reach places. Sanded the outside big panel on doors down to bare metal and applied a skim coat of filler, blocked and primed.

Thank you. It's literally coming along one piece at a time. Good luck with your 65 and let's see some pics. |

The plan today was to finish body working the front fenders and prime, but instead I decided to fit the front apron and mock everything up. Glad I did because the fenders and apron both needed some tweaking. Still need some more, but getting closer. This stuff takes a long time.

No real progress as of late. Been moving and am in the process of getting settled in to the new place. A few pics right before the move.
Quick question though on aftermarket rear fenders. In the 1st pic, see the point on the left, rear fender where it meets the apron??? Is that the common fitment issue with these? I thought I was getting ahead of the game and sand blasted and primed these prior to test fitting. The ones I took off fit great, but needed more attention than I thought these did. I completely overlooked fitting them. My apron is bent in a little on the left corner so this is the worst of the 2. If I decide to use these how would one go about making them fit properly?
