In 2010 we had some nice finds, but the year 2011 definately beat it.

For the 2010 cars see: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=445474
In that topic I allready wrote that in 2011 a major discovery would be gone public.

Well here are the 4 nominies of 2011. Three of them are real finds, while the Type 62 Prototype is a car that has gone out of hiding.

Lat year we had 100 votes, now we are almost halfway.

Three cars are very close to eachother what sort of suprise me. I also noticed that I missed to include the east german Porsche 356 style creation. That car was also "discovered" in 2011.

For me it has to be the Typ 62. Remarkable that this car survived in such condition. Would be interesting to know how "extensive" the earlier restoration was.

The find of the year was the Type 62 prototype. A shockingly well preserved example of a heretofore extinct prototype. But my favorite was the rooftop KdF-Wagen in Lithuania. That one struck every emotional chord.

It wasn't really extinct but only hidden.

All the founds are worth it. My favorit is the Dannenhauer coupe. Rare beast as not much made

Folks: I already know what the big found for 2012 is Woha Shocked
It is not big, but it will give a bang when fired.
best regards

Not the whole thing but it is a very crucial part... the heart, so to speak...
I hope a new topic will be started on this find as this thread has just been hijacked.

Just to try to get back on topic, I voted the Kubel prototype. Although the Lithuanian KdF is a cool story, the rarity and overall wow factor of the oldest military VW in existance and it actually being from the '30ies, it was an obvious choice to me.

It's got to be the type 62, you can be sure that Dr. Porsche had his hands all over this one!

Well, I think it is time to close the poll

The D&S Coupe was selected as best find of 2011, closely followed by the Type 62 prototype. I think the last one had won if everybody know what kind of chassis was used for this car. Wink

To all. Good luck hunting for more special cars.

regards
Patrick

We might as well not even put it out for a vote in 2012. Snorkelstang has been found. This may be bigger than the VW38 find.
