I love to run (19:23 5K, 1:30:48 half marathon) and use the eliptical machine when I can't run. What do other Samba members do for exercise? You all seem like a fit and active bunch!

I do a 500 calorie in 30 minute workout on the eliptical machine followed by 60 "Pushups and sideplanks" I learned how to do from the Wii Fit every morning except weekends.

I hit some sort of mid-life crisis last year My dad had some health issues as well that really motivated me. Lost 50 lbs, started excersizing and watch what I eat now. Haven't had a soda in a year and a half, but other beverages still make thier way to the table. I even take a one a day vitamin and an asprin every morning with breakfast.

Hike! I try to hike 5-14 miles every weekend that I can. When I can get a few more days off work I do some long distances, preferably on the Appalachian Trail. There is nothing like climbing a steep ridge with a heavy pack on your back then sleeping out in the wilderness.

I'm 55 years old and raising a 2, 3, and 9 year old. I also work in hospitals all over South Texas and use the stairs several times a day. Despite a trainwreck of a back, I still don't have a gut. No Jack Lelane, but I can do 8-10 hours a day clearing and hauling brush. Nothing to brag about, but it seems to be keeping me a few steps ahead of the game compared to most of my younger friends.

Lately I go to the gym with my son. Combination of stretching machines and cardio machines.

I do an hour of cardio 4 time a week. Bike or eliptical, 25 to 30 minutes of strength traing and some core work.

I leave the remote control for the TV across the room, so I have to get up to change channels.

What a workout! I feel the burn.

Avid bicyclist (am approaching the 15,000 mile mark) for the past 11 years or so.

I am also a 2nd degree Black Belt in Karate but that career is probably over as of last week. I’ve been unemployed for the past two years. When I became unemployed I told my instructor that I would be taking a hiatus because paying for Karate classes would be a luxury I felt I should not splurge on. He offered to let me keep taking classes for free until I found employment. Well, last week he hinted that two years was longer than he expected and would like me to start paying again. I told him that wasn’t going to happen. Anyway, I’m using this as an excuse to bow out gracefully. I’m looking forward to having my Tues and Thurs nights back that I’ve missed for the past 12 years. Besides getting my life back, I was getting tired of the injuries. We literally beat the shit out of each other every Thurs night sparring and the bruised/cracked ribs, jammed toes/fingers, etc were getting old. Just a couple months ago a fellow black belt student (6’5” 215 lb.) came back to visit. He and I were hand sparring and he got a good punch into my ribs, exactly where I’ve been clocked several times before in the past. That did not feel very good and it makes for some nice quality time when you try to sleep at night. NOT!
I have mixed feelings about quitting but overall it was a good run and now can look forward to relaxing.

Not a whole lot with snow on the ground, but I ride my bike to work 2-3 times a week when weather permits. It's about a 1/2 hour ride either way and any day above 25 degrees and dry is fair game.

I love to ride my bike, I purchased a new Gary Fisher road bike last year and when weather permits, I will be riding to work and back. I also swim laps, snowshoe, cross country ski and hike.

Aren't cross country skiing and hiking the same?
