The Volvos are nice little mystery machines. A co-worker had one years back and everyone would ask him what it was. No it wasn't a Maxwell Smart car. LOL
I likem too!

That's an 1800S. The bumpers would make it post 1964.The slotted wheels would make it post 1966 and a lack of side marker lights would make it pre 1968. That grille looks too early for a 66-67 car though

P1800

That's a true P1800. Notice the clear front turn signals, bull horn bumper, early egg crate grille etc. Those early C pillar emblems are worth some good money, straight early hubcaps are made of gold........

Check out the cool dashboard/gauges. I was looking for a still shot of that dash for the gauges thread

The P1800 I have buried in the carport has all that early stuff- antique white with a red interior. If the rain, snow, and wind ever stops, I'll excavate it and get some photos of the car and the Smiths gauges.

Dropped my car off for service at my local independent garage and parked nearby was one of the mechanics new ride a mini. Walked over to it and noticed it had a cooper badge. Parked right in front of a midsized SUV that dwarfed it. One just sold recently outside of town and I used to see a couple of others as well, one of which was an og clubman with VA tags. In Athens Greece maybe 8-9 years ago only time I've seen a mini pickup, bed about big enough to tote a dishwasher. Always liked "peoples" cars and micros. I've thought of buying a mini to have in addition to my oval. Either that or an og Fiat 500.

Dunebubby- I never heard the fact about P1800s vs. 1800es before. I've loved these cars forever- and always see the designation as P----. I'm guessing the car world at large designates it with a "P" everything to identify it uniquely with Volvo vs. all the other European 1800s. Learn something here everyday- and the non-VW is most interesting!

Still one of my favorite cars- but don't get me started about Jensen Interceptors... Smile

I did not realize there are differences - thanks for pointing that out.

Andrew Whyte,(I think it's spelled) outlined it on page 84 of his book about Volvo's but the name escapes me and I don't have time to search!

This would do as well though I like the light green a little better than red.

Once you drove the first one, you wouldn't be able to stand the second one. Smile

I'm going to try to get those P1800 pics tomorrow.

I have never had the chance to drive either cars, but I would have to agree - I'd rather have the Mercedes 1000X more - plus it's obviously a much better looking car, IMO. No comparison, actually. And I'd wager it was handcrafted. I'll take German metal over GM fiberglass any day.

I guess that other makes had California Specials also as a friend of mine back in the early '80s had a late '60s early '70s Buick California Special. Nice looking car.
