I had a girl classmate in HS who's daddy bought her one of those ^^^- same color. Few kids knew how unique the California Specials were. She wrecked it a couple months later. |
They did a special model for Colorado too. |
I guess that other makes had California Specials also as a friend of mine back in the early '80s had a late '60s early '70s Buick California Special. Nice looking car. |
I just looked it and it looks like they were based on the GS. I never heard of those before but I rode around in a 68 GS during High School! _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

I have always liked 67 Mustang fastbacks.
I would like one with a 289 4spd. _________________ 65 Bug

Maxwell Smarts cars- off the Interwebthingy:
"The in the opening credits for the first two seasons was a 1965 Sunbeam Tiger Mark I, which was used in several episodes throughout the first four seasons, though sometimes substituted by a very similar-looking Sunbeam Alpine with Tiger badging. A Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was used in the opening credits for the third and fourth seasons but never used in any episode (can you blame him for that?). For the fifth season, the show featured a 1969 Opel GT used in the opening credits as well as the episodes for that season. Only used in the pilot episode was an early-’60s Ferrari 250 GT cabriolet."
My brother & I owned 3 Opel Gt's back in the '70s/earlie '80s....

I love it when a thread takes a "Right Turn" and ends up back at a Volkswagen. _________________ Good Luck

Back when I was still in High School long long time ago I had a 2 door 122S 4 banger with 2 SU carbs $300.00 if I remember right. Have to say that was a bad ass little car with a shifter that was every bit 2+' long. Use to tune the carbs with a hose one end in your ear the other in the carb when the sound was right from one to the other you where good to go. This isn't mine but looks just like it. First car I ever had that had 3 point seat belts.
