Just getting some ideas on what you all feel is good amount of clearance at full bump. Right now shocks are my limiting factor, at 6 inches negative clearance. Going to put on some FOA 4 inch stops. I have about 2 inches. Thats probably not enough, but I never feel it bottom out. Before I got larger front tires you needed a feeler gauge to measure clearance up front and I never had any problems.

If your tires sink in the sand you don;t want to shock your rail and your back by bottoming it out. ALso if you do desert race, you could break some stuff landing on small rocks.

I aim for 4" ,more is better. the crown on some trails are more than you think. I have landed pan in a car and it does not feel good. my feet where on the floor when we landed and it hurt jard my hole body.

just some food for thought.

You sure the axle won't pull out of the CV joint before you max out the CV angle? We had a problem like that on my schools SAE baja's rear end. With the trailing arm rear end we'd max out the plunge and pull the axle out of the CV before maxing out the CV angle.

Thats exactly the problem I'm having….I can clear an easy 14" of travel to full bump with a couple inches, and thats running 15" rims with 33's.

But my issue is the CV's holding up. I'm going to get an angle finder to see what its at. But In the picture you have It looks way over whats possible just like mine is.

Somebody once told me too….

And for which ever CV's you run…to set full bump and turn the wheel with axles hooked up, listen for the "clicking" sound. Once you find it let some pressure down on the wheel until it goes away atleast an inch, and thats where you should set your stops.

Axles still plunge (move) side to side aboutgood 1.5 inches at angle pictured. At those angle pictured cv is fine. No clicking for another 5 degrees or so.

Wow, thats pretty good. I bet its because of those 33's.

What axle set up are you running??

002 tranny, 930 clearanced joints (loose "race" style), 300m axles, just shy of 2 feet long each, micro stubs, gear one disc brakes, and what are more or less 5X5 dual pivot arms. Tires are 33x10.50. Gonna set up the rear with about 4" inches of ground cleareance at full bump. Seemed to be the general consensus from multiple people. Running king coilovers, if they were bypass then i might go 2 inches knowing i could set it progresively to make it "hard" to get full bump.
