|
|
Tried searching but all I found was bits and pieces listed under "c-channel"- How is everyone sealing around a baja (mark v) hood? My c-channel is rusty and needs to come off and I don't have a spot-welder and know from years ago it's a PITA to try to do with a mig.. I do have a bunch of small 1/8 stainless pop rivets- Can it be riveted on very well? I found a brief 2007 conversation where someone was asking about using adhesive to bond the c-channel on- any updates on a brand that works well? I'm assuming the mexi-style seal doesn't work on a fiberglass hood? Is there a size or type of bulk weatherstripping that will work all the way around, eliminating the c-channel altogether? Someone in an old post posted this link:

But didn't mention a size "D"seal they used, or if it would work all the way around the hood? _________________ Hater of cheap parts and poor workmanship.. |

Many years ago a buddy and I built a baja (mid 80's) and used two pieces of the pinch welting that is used around the pinch weld on the beetle pop out quarter windows (holds the headliner in place and cushens the pop out window when closed), painted it black and slide it on the baja hood for a accent trim. It looked sharp.
So, last year when I was building my white baja, I was looking for a new pinch weld to do it again. I spotted his add for the stock hood seal and wondered if it would work. Actually, the seal you see on my White Baja is the white baja in his pictures on his add. I called him and asked for a longer piece of the seal he used for the stock hoods. I told him my intention and he asked for pictures once I installed it. I sent the pictures and he started the second add.
He is good to work with, ships the product quickly and it is a good quality seal.
So, it is the same seal used for either the stock hood or the baja hood.
The front bumper is unkown manufacture. My bet is a Bugpack bumper. Because the rear bumper is a Bugpack and I would guess the PO bought them at the same time. _________________ The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Did you do away with the c-channel across the cowl and just use this one all the way around? _________________ Hater of cheap parts and poor workmanship.. |

Yes. I removed the small stock seal channel across the cowel section, (still in place on each side) and welded the screw holes in the cowel channel area closed so any water gets in there will drain to the sides and not into the wiring harness.
The reason I called the seller was I wanted enough seal to make it 360* around the baja hood for a total seal. His Baja seal add has a longer length seal just for that purpose. _________________ The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
