Well SOWO is this coming weekend and its not looking good on making it. Too strapped for cash to finish the loose ends and have the gas/food money to make the quest.
I did take her out for a 40 foot roll to snap a few pics before it got dark. I hope you enjoy.

Nice looking Rabbit!
What kind of carb are you running here and how difficult is the Super Beetle master cylinder conversion? TIA. _________________ (o\!/o) Fweem! Fweem!

Thanks. The carb is a Weber progressive. They work great on these unlike the air cooled engines. Decent MPG and they give a pretty nice pull when you get into the "progressive" section.
So far I'm real happy with the brakes. Did a little test panic stop from 60 MPH but so far that's it. It was an easy fit except for the reservoir fittings that go into the master. Beetle is a larger size then the Rabbit but I'm sure a little more research on different grommets and/or tanks could come up with something and make this mod real simple. I'll try to get some pics of what I'm talking about to clarify. Other then that I drilled out the threads for the mount to fit the Rabbit studs and cut down the pedal pin. Really all there was too it. _________________ Rob

Took the Rat out to get a decent exhaust done at a local muffler shop. Had him run 2.5 all the way from the down pipe with a new flex joint. Went with a Thrush muffler and it worked out pretty nice not having the stock gas tank.

Spent a little more time with the barn wood too.
Then took her for her first car wash

Thank you. I will try to stop by with my daughter. She showed at your event in 2010. Her & my son's pics are on the first page about in the middle. _________________ Rob

No I didn't make it but my 2 kids did go in their VW's. I ran out of money to finish the loose ends. _________________ Rob

Made it out to a car show for the first time a few weeks ago and got a lot of great responses and a few offers. By far the most fun I am having with a car in a long time. I recommend a long hard look at everything before making the trip to the salvage yard.
Found this on facebook and snagged a copy
Now my 60 panel cry's for attention, or should I say howls Sounds like a reduction bearing or worse the pinion bearing. So I'm off to work on that. I may do a little more interior work on the rat and post up some pics. _________________ Rob

Thanks. I get a lot of offers on this, more than any other car I've owned. It's crazy.
I just got fresh tires and changed up the look of the Momo wheels. Pics coming soon.
So what would this cash in hand consist of I ignored the last guy, I just wasn't ready to hear it It's just too new, fresh, and fun to consider selling it, but as time marches on you never know. I may show it a bit more and see what the general reactions are. Non VW people absolutely love it but not sure how the VW crowd will react.
Oh and no question on the trip. I made this bad boy simple and reliable. I daily drive it now and love it. _________________ Rob

Changed up the look a bit with the rims and got some fresh road rubber. Center caps need to go on still.....
and after the oil pan hammered a good sized rock in the middle of the road that the every other car just straddled I went to work on an oil pan saver.
Its mounted 100% to the body and has 2 large bolts with plates a few milometers away from the block and trans case...
so a hard blow will use the block for added strength and spacing it away keeps the vibration down.
Sorry it looks too crude for a nice lowered MK1 but this may help get some ideas going for others to consider. The oil pan is just too close to the ground when you slam one of these and I haven't found a good solution yet. _________________ Rob

Very nice example of an early Golf/Rabbit.I mean, this thing aged good!
If you could bring this beauty to 'our' show down south, it would be quite an eye catcher...
Good work and greetings from Austria ! |

Thanks a lot! I would love to bring it to Austria! But the sea air on the trip may be all it needs to push her over the edge
I have to say it has been real fun but mostly funny showing this car. Some people don't get it and take offence to it. It's sad. A few got down right angry about it like one of the show judges at the Tulsa VW show. Another judge and I gave up explaining it when he went off on how bad the car was. He never did get it we just gave up Then I had a paint vendor stop and give me his card and said come see me when you're ready for paint. Over all people dig it and when they understand the story behind saving its life they like it more. I could never intentionally rust a car, especially an old swallow tail.
Anyway I promise not to spam this thread with anymore pics after this batch, unless something radical changes.

Thanks You never know, interests change, life changes. I got your info but passed up a few offers already.
She's getting new hub bearings, output shaft seals and half shafts this week on both sides. Little rumble started on the left side so it will be all new and fresh.

Thanks! Some of the reactions I've been getting from people have me pulling into my shell a little bit. It's good to know I have a fan or two
Guess a crew put together a couple cool videos of the meet from a few weeks ago and the rat made both cuts.
